It might be interesting to cross-reference this with other bills that involve war. One could probably create a list of senators who are most heavily lobbied and least heavily lobbied when it comes to war. And other things for that matter. While part of me would like to think that those few who voted against are not bought and paid for by the MIC, but it is possible that they have other political motivations. Thus I might try and go back and find other war-related bills that have been passed to see who was for and who was against. Which might honestly also tell something else, like which senators are aligned to which other nations and potentially might be lobbied by them as well.

Glad to see Rand Paul not on this list. At least he's living up to his fathers Anti-Military Instustrial Complex record.

It is interesting to see how the only ones to vote against were Republicans. I wonder what the result would have looked like had Trump been in office and supported the bill.

No I mean would the senators / reps have voted the same on the same bill if a republican / trump would have been president.

Trump would not have supported the bill and he would have signed it simply because his veto would have been overridden. Russia/Ukraine is the only significant issue where the majority of the republicans in congress have broken with Trump.
Trump was forced to sign a bill sanctioning Russia for election interference due to overwhelming support of both parties for the sanctions

I bet he would have supportered Ukraine if he was president at least for a while in the hopes of making a deal which he could delcare his ultimate triumph. He won't now because Biden is president and therefore any action taken must be declared the wrong one.

there is no right...there is no left... there is only the military industrial complex, and a clever ruse to keep you from paying attn to it.

Except for those that voted against this, they apparently do not support the MIC. Or at least because the Dems are in power they have decided to vote against. That's why I'm curious as to whether these specific senators / house reps have voted against war in the past as well. It is surprising to me though that not a single democrat voted against the MIC, I would have thought at least a few of them would be against it.

Considering that he held up allocated military aid for the purpose of extorting political favors from Zelensky, we don't have to guess!
Trump would not have supported Ukraine, and would probably have pushed to give Putin military aid.

more important is which reps and senators vote against war, and which ones vote for war, then we know who is corrupt and who isn't, and perhaps people could start voting the corrupt people out of office, if we weren't so distracted by wedge issues and identity politics

Considering that he held up allocated military aid for the purpose of extorting political favors from Zelensky, we don't have to guess!
Trump would not have supported Ukraine, and would probably have pushed to give Putin military aid.
That just it. Trump would support Ukraine knowing that they would pretty much have to kiss his ass in return. Trump doesn't want to help Russia. He wants to help Trump.

even if that was so, your conclusion would require it to be in trumps best interest to help ukraine over russia... which isnt clear... infact historically it seems like its been in trumps best interest to favor russia. we dont know if its because they have a pee tape... or just because of money... or threats...we dont know why, just that trump seems to lay down for putin quick

I think a more likely outcome is that Trump tries to extort Ukraine, and regardless of outcome, he does not hold up his end of the deal and does what Putin wants anyway.

Putin would call Trump and tell him a scary Ukrainian Nazi story and trump would throw Ukraine under the bus

I think Trump likes Russia because he knows it would support him in his fantasy civil war where all his supporters rise up to declare Trump the messiah.

well since this thread has devolved into talk about Trump, I believe if he had still been in office for a second term that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine, and the Taliban would not be in control of Afghanistan and we would have friendlier relations with North Korea. But tbh I'm kind over the president game, I think we should refocus on our 'elected representatives' in congress.

Well yeah, even after pulling out of Afghanistan the military got a $50 billion increase to their budget.
And now they've failed 5 audits in a row with 59% of their assets unaccountable for.
Hundreds of billions of dollars that no one in the Pentagon claims to know the whereabouts of.
How ridiculous.
