what's your credit score history?

When I was like 19 my credit was ~570. I was reckless and buying lots of booze and weed at the time, overdrawn accounts. I think I've only ever missed a payment like once or twice and I payed it back within two weeks.
Still all throughout university I was in the low 600s. Never missed a payment but started using my card a lot. In 2019 I decided to pay off my debt (about 10k). It was rough at times, especially because I'd be broke after rent. I literally ate rice and Lentils for years (i was vegan at the time). now I'm 30 and I have 800+. Feels great to reach this milestone

I float between 750 and 800 depending on my credit card usage that month. Vantage score. My FICO score is lower and floats prob around 700 to 720ish but doesn't swing as much.

they are different models and mostly depends on which credit agency you are checking against.
Transunion and equifax are vantage.
Experian is FICO. FICO is the older model and more strict. Vantage takes some stuff into account like a past due medical issue wont hit your score, etc.

90% of lenders use FICO. There numerous FICO scores, IIRC FICO 5 and FICO 8 are the two most commonly utilized.

I had terrible credit when I was in my 20s, I didn’t even know how credit cards worked, just thought it was free money or something. So you can guess how that all worked out.
Now I don’t know what it is but it’s high.over 800 for sure. Think I started getting serious about finances around 26-27. Late to the game but not so late I couldn’t rectify poor decisions with disciplined ones.

My credit score is boring, learned as a teenager about credit cards and their reward programs, and fortunately never used them to spend beyond my means, so my score's been stable on the upper end since I began checking it. I guess when I started it was closer to 700 because I just didn't have much history, but it hangs above 800 all the time now.

Geo you seem solid with finances. Have you ever had any hardships? Tax issues? Loans? Homeless? Something?

Honestly, most of my hardships have been matters of the heart. I've made a couple of insignificant errors on my taxes that have resulted in small penalties. I took out loans from family to start my first businesses as a teenager. My second fairly large business having custom built subwoofers made for home and car audio enthusiasts went up in flames when my OEM supplier went bankrupt, only a week after accepting my largest purchase order to date, which was close to $40,000. I ate a pretty big loss on that one. Throughout my adolescence, I've lived very close to my means, but was disciplined enough to accept the limits of my wealth and keep my eyes focused on the long game of financial stability, thus having avoided any significant or persistent debts. I have had some trades blow up on me. Outright lost a cool quarter million on the Terra/Luna blowup last year. Have blown up my trading account a couple of times as I learned the ropes. But always stayed diversified so that, ideally, no one point of failure would destroy me completely.
While I would never be so naïve as to believe that I have had it easy only because of my race and where I was born, it is worth noting that I kind of scored a lottery ticket in being born into privilege. I am a white male, born into an affluent suburb of Los Angeles (one of the richest cities in one of the richest states in one of the richest countries of the world). I grew up with two parents, who although far from perfect, showed up and made significant efforts to provide a rich and engaging childhood. I did have a lot of freedom, which resulted in me doing a lot of stuff that could have landed me with significant fines, in jail and possibly even dead... but circling back to being raised in a bit of the "upper crust" so to speak, dealing with police and other authorities and/or victims of my crimes has always been relatively easy.
I've been guilty of credit card fraud, breaking and entering, lots of shoplifting as a pre-teen, I was even an accomplice to arson (nobody got hurt, just a literal dumpster fire). I got ratted out for the B&E and the arson incidents, but never had to do any jail time, barely had to pay any fines. The family whose home we broke into, subsequently identity frauded and stole thousands of dollars from, just asked us to do a little yard work to make it up to them... they even left us unattended at their house when working, while they ran errands in town, and offered to buy us lunch! I bring up this odd little detail, because I can pinpoint it as the moment that I realized what an asshole I was for taking advantage of people. I resolved at that point never to engage in any crimes that would harm other people, and have kept to that ever since.
Ok... kinda went off the rails there.
All in all, I've been very lucky, in a lot of ways. I try to be smart too, but as an old saying goes: It's better to be lucky than smart.

My credit was absolutely perfect going into covid-19 pandemic then I was furloughed by my employer and had absolutely no means to make the payments on the variety of credit cards I had. I think I got my first Amex card at 21 years old. Never missed a single payment. I guess my biggest error was not having a backup plan if I was to stop getting paid. Didn't have a global pandemic on my bingo card.

I have a 790-795 score. It fluctuates a bit depending on credit usage %. I pay everything right at the end of the month. Credit cards are such scam. It takes a certain kind of person, they'd rather be juiced than pay all at once.
Now naturally I'm not talking about a house, car, etc. but purchases that are under a certain amount should either be paid immediately or not purchased at all IMO.
