I have been growing cactus for about five years (interestingly enough, it's become a very important part of my life since my last psychedelic experience on LSD, which seemed to give me direction and a purpose)
Last year in December I had a power outage at the greenhouse, which froze several hundred plants, which I had collected, a majority of them were landrace clones and well circulated clones. I had two options at the time, be sad and depressed, or keep going and find a purpose. What should I do with a hundred mature clones and several hundred immature seedlings? This is not a question we as growers want to face! Luckily I know a couple people who are in the right spot.
I have a friend who works with DNA sequencing, with an emphasis in plants. I have another friend who has some good knowledge and the right equipment for some in depth alkaloid testing.

All of the crosses have been circulated either on Reddit or TTC on Facebook. All of the named clones are circulated, some more than others (there are several which have originated from a very close friend of mine, and I have circulated his cuts, they all come directly from me)
It breaks down like this (and it pains me to my core to label them as echinopsis)
e lagenformis 20 t riomizquensis 1 Cross 14 e pachanoi 15 c peruviana 18 l marginalis a myrostigma variegata 2 e scopulicola 2 a asteres variegata 3 Astrophytum myrostigma monstrose 1 huarazensis 1 e horizonthalonius 1 mammillaria 1 e macrogona 1 m geometrezens 1 g mihanovichi 1 e brevispinolus 1 n polylopha crestada 1
There are also multiple data points for tip, mid, and base samples (each sample taken 12" apart)
As well as some core samples, inner samples, white flesh only samples, the list goes on. I'm meeting with the genetics guy in a couple weeks, and shipping the alkaloid tests out in a week. This is a pretty heady endeavor, but here's hoping that we shine some light on the plants!
