Oregon Baeocystis and some edibles
    #2826013 - 06/25/04 12:34 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

A quick stroll today produced the following mushrooms. From left to right King Bolete (small button), Chanterelle (largest of several) and a single Psilocybe baeocystis. This is the first time I have ever found a wild baeo. It is a little sun scorched, but what would you expect in late June.

All of the mushrooms were found in the same area, a campground within the Southern Oregon coastal fog-belt which produces various mushrooms nearly all year long. The baeocystis was found on the grassy edge of a large pile of wood debris from recent woodland clearing for campground expansion. You can bet I will be watching that wood debris this fall.

Very nice. Was the Baeo in a lawn or in wood chips. Usually the lawn varieties appear around now and then in Spet-Oct the woodchip varieties come out.

It was in woodchips. A bit of wood is still attached to the base.

Are the boletes fruiting early up that way too? We're getting all kinds of Boletes around the SE right now because of the unseasonably cooler temps and pretty constant (sometimes heavy) rains we've seen in the last 2 weeks.

I want my Porcinis!

Ohh yeah, and the Baeocystis is pretty cool too... I guess .
