Basically, it’s my spore syringe, but allows precision dispensing unlike a syringe. Lately, I’ve been making spore prints in glass petris so I can just use the pipette to dump sterile water on the print, mix and suck it back into the sterile pipette. Then I can precisely put a drop of spores on each plate to streak. So it’s a better syringe when you don’t actually intent your inject anything.
Ok so I can see this working in one session but do you need to sterilize the pipette between each use? Did you get one that is extra long to keep your hand as far away from the plate as possible?
How has your success rate been?

Yes, I sterilize it between uses. You can also sterilize between plates if you want. I wish it were shorter, but it’s a trade off for precision. The longer and thinner the pipette, the farther you have to move the pump plunger to dispense a drop, so it’s extremely precise for dispensing to plates. I never had this option with my SAB because of the length.
Success rate is the same as a syringe, but I don’t end up wanting to throw it across the room after accidentally spraying a plate like a syringe.

I'm disappointed you didn't take the opportunity to say "accidentally squirted all over a plate".

SPG I look forward to your future of serial dilution and isolating monokaryons. Do you have a scope?

Cereals died isolated who’s monkey did what now with the krayons?
I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I think you may be giving me and my broken brain way too much credit.😝

Do you just flame sterilize between plates?

I have an IR sterilizer but for loops/needles/pipettes, I never use it between plates. The pipette is boro glass, so I suppose I could use the sterilizer between plates if I wanted, but I’ve never tried it.

Currently experimenting with these things. If it's successful I'll do a write up on them as it can complete replace monos and double production in the same space, at least for my setup

May I ask why this is better than a standard sterilite shoe box which is like 1/3 of the price?

Honestly I don't know that it is yet, I just cased one spawned on the 25th with PE and cased on the 31st, colonized in 6 days and casing is already partially colonizing, I also have a 66 qt mono spawned and cased the same way as a control. They're more stable when stacked, lid is clear and lets in more light and the vent holes should make it so I won't need to flip or move the lid. In my work space I can only fit 1 mono per shelf, where as I can fit 4 of these in the same space, stacked without being wobbly because of the oddly shaped lids of traditional boot boxes

Theyre also bigger and come pre drilled. Dub tubning medium sized totes like these or bootboxds is one of the most space efficient ways to grow. When totes arent fruiting they can be stacked 2x as many in the same space
I’d rock em

Exactly, but not so much bigger I needed to use more spawn and CVG. it's still a 2:4 ratio and substrate is around 3" deep. I just have a layer of micropore tape covering the vents that I'm going to remove when I get home to increase FAE. if it can yield at least half of what my 66qt Monos usually do I'm probably going to retire them and exclusively use these.

Have you tried ratios other than the 1:2 you’re doing now?

I'll throw away the one on the top. Made this 2 years ago without knowing what to to.
It's totally unusable since it's so small.
The holes are fine for me. Just doing PF-Tek, i don't use large grain jars.

Not judging. Just literally don't think I'd be able to fit my paws in there without bumping it around. Good job though.

UK users;
ASDA has these in. (Below) not overly sure how they would come in useful. The button on the top locks and creates an air tight seal. They just feel mushroomry for some reason...
