Is this WBS alright?
    #2825373 - 06/24/04 08:00 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Just making sure, I am soaking it now and it smells kinda odd.... Like citric acid (probably the Cirus Oil).
After the soak and rinse it should be good to go?

I would rinse it between each step and rinse it again before pc'ing

I would also rinse it while it is soaking too

I've never used anything but straight millet but I don't rinse...I think rinsing and soaking is uneeded....all you need to do is find the right ratio of water/millet(or birdseed) put the right amount in each jar and pc...no messy wet seed and perfect water content everytime

btw the ratio I use for 1lt jars is 350ml millet/200ml water and 1/4 teaspoon of gypsum... you'll have to play with the ratio cause some seed is more dry than others....but once you got the ratio its real easy...no waiting for soaking or worrying about popping seeds from simmering..just load the jars and pc...generally what you want is as much water as possible without having mush build up at the bottom of the jars

Rinsing gets rid of all of the unwanted additives such as possible fungicides and who knows what else they add to it.

I've tried doing the skip-step approach but it's ended in failure each time...  Maybe when I find a better source for millet (BulkBarn).
Where/What do I ask for to get gypsum?  I ask at local garden centers and they look at me like I just said I eat children...  :smirk:

Garden Centers should sell something for ph balance-both ways.
But if you can't find anything else, try this VVV

Try a construction site -ask anyone there for a piece of scrap "Sheetrock"(drywall),it is Gypsum!

Totally.

250 grams millet is approx. 350ml volume.

Very true. Jar left presssure cooked compared to jar right (yet to be pressure cooked) of 250gram millet, 200ml water and 1/4 teaspoon gypsum.

Thanks on the EQ
