Can I save a monotub that doesn't have enough substrate?

Hey ya'll, i recently started my first PE monotub and I underestimated how much substrate I would need. my entire tub is fully colonized but is only around 2 inches thick. I want to add another .5-1 inch on top but I already started fruiting conditions 6 days ago, and im worried that if I put another casing layer it will be easily contaminated because of the amount of FAE the tub has gotten. Thanks for any help.

I hope you get an answer, because I am currently going through the same exact thing. I believe that it’s still possible for some to come up, but the yield, and size of the shrooms will probably be affected. We shall see.

FAE doesn't cause contamination. Dirty spawn does for the most part. You can either let the tub ride for now, or just add some more coir and mix it in as if you were spawning to bulk for the first time. Then again, with PE perhaps the latter may not be the best strategy and I admit to not having experience with a PE grow, so take my advice with a pinch of salt on this.

I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is”

You can add a casing layer two weeks from now if you want. In the past I've put a casing layer on weeks after it went into fruiting.

PE's like a thick compressed pseudo-casing, i dont see any problem with adding an inch of compressed coir ontop, coir is contam resistant. The only thing that can cause your tub to "easily" contam, is compromised grain spawn
