Not yet, it's a new tek a friend shared, I just put all 8 in 3x4 baggies and do them about a week or so before sending, but I guess once they've colonized the agar piece they could be stored in fridge. I suggest recepient use a staralized paper clip to get them out or maybe they might just fall out if tapped a little!?

And they come sterile in the package, so you just cut out a piece in front of flow how/in sab, and put the cap on? Sounds like this is best suited for sharing, but smellyhobbit said it's good for using in the future? How far into the future?

I believe they're pp5 and can be sterilized. LC or distilled water slants are good for years. I heard 6 years for LC in the fridge once, could probably go even longer though.

I’m sure the upper limit for LC is unknown. Probably unguessable. So long as the conditions are good, which they should always be for our purposes, I imagine it can last longer than any of us think

Yea I guess you’re right, most of us cannot guarantee a stable temperature for prolong periods of time, if the temp sways in your house it sways in your fridge, it sways in your sample.. after that there are only so much nutrients you can provide it before theres nothing.

You ain’t wrong but I think it’s very common, you do really well at creating a home lab and managing your specs. I think you have farless to worry about as someone like me who’s walls have no insulation, who’s air and heat are not centralized and who has to work with only what they’ve got. Not to say you don’t find your own pitfalls and challenges, I am confident you have finding your way to where you are now, I however, have never had a house/fridge/grow that had stable temps.

As I understand it LC runs out of nutrients at full colonization. After that it’s just in stasis anyway. There’s not 4+ years of nutes in a 500ml bottle. We know it can last at least that long.

I have had a lot of crapy friges in the various rental places I have lived, with conditions like you mention, but it never affected the frig. Even the one with the frayed seal. It just caused the frig to work more/harder. My 2-cents. Have you noticed the the cents sign has vanished from the keyboards!

How often do you guys see pins on your agar plates? 5%-10% of the time?
I'm streaking a bunch of 60mm plates and just waiting for pins to clone.

Hi, They come in a bag with a hole in it, I figured they were ok to just put agar piece in and mail and have checked a couple times to see if there's contam but havne't seen it yet, knock on wood...
I'm guessing they'd last a couple months in the fridge after they colonized and I noticed they all almost are not colonzing the agar piece too quickly except a couple that are fast colonizers...

It's not a set percentage. Depends on genetics, agar, conditions, etc.

I have about 30 cultures in distilled water cryo vials. I did test one and it is clean. Basically I bought 15ml cryo vials, filled about 3/4 of distilled water, PC them, once cool I dropped in a small colonized agar piece about the size of a grain of rice. A little myc grew off the agar and floats around in stasis. Now I have a steril culture that will last years. No need to refrigerate and takes less room than slants.
