I will keep this in mind. Thank you.

Edit: I used cold water/hydrated lime pasteurization. So, idk if heat will be an issue.

The heat is produced by the mycelium and anything else thatโ€™s living off the substrate.
I suggest taping the holes with micropore tape until the sub is fully colonized so it doesnโ€™t start fruiting prematurely.

Just talking out of my ass... but would a length of PVC(empty) in the center of the bucket resolve the "deep core" overheating?

That's what I was thinking, but with a pump putting room temp water through. Whatever volume in the pipe, use for your reservoir, and cycle it through on a timer. Water chiller on a thermostat, if necessary.

I imagine it'd be a real pain getting the buckets on and off, though, and leaks would be a real mess.

They'll be fine. I run buckets of every sub imaginable for oysters and cram them to the top. Last year I ran a couple hundred buckets and never needed a pvc insert.  Now when I make a 55gal bucket...
But generally, I  just:
1. Fill buckets with spawn and sub
2. Cover with trash can liner
3.  Remove when pins show
(Granted I remove the liner and mist a few times in between  1. and 3.)

I want to do some oyster this year indoors. Will that work just in the house?

Totally.  I keep a few going to eat indoors during the cold months.  You can make a column of them to stand in the corner and just spin them around and mist them a few/several times a day when they're fruiting.  During the warm months I set them in the shade outside and mist them with a hose.  Easy peasy.

Looks like mold or trich definatly dosnt look right. Not an expert but I dont believe thats the good stuff. Was it from spore print or lc? Me personally I like to use agar with hydrogen peroxide in it to help with contam and mold growth.
