San Pedro dying?

Dear gardeners,
Can you tell from these pictures whether this cutting is slowly dying, or is waiting to be planted?
The cut happened a month ago, the dark edge is slowly advancing, there are no side roots visible. The brown color of the flesh comes from cinnamon.
Thank you

Iβm no expert but it seems just fine to me. Looks like a good callus has formed on the cut flesh. IME the βblackβ could just be the skin from around the original cut drying back as the cut flesh dries out and shrinks.
Trichocereus growers unite is a great resource, as well as The Bridgesii thread. Lots of knowledgeable, helpful growers to be found there. Welcome to the shroomery.

Put it in dry soil in a warm place outside. If you are worried about it, cut it and let it callous over again.

Cut off the part with cinnamon on it, and either use sulphur or nothing at all. The cinnamon is causing it to rot, which is why you are seeing black. It promotes rotting, and causes fungal issues because it is not sterile, and it traps moisture inside next to the cut.

Your cactus is just fine. Don't cut it again or you'll just put unnecessary stress on it.
As the white pulp dries, it pulls back and skin is left sticking out with no white pulp behind it. Naturally, this dies and turns brown.
Let it dry for a month and then put it in dry sand in very bright but indirect light to root. You can spray a light mist on the sand every other day to keep the sand only slightly humid but mostly dry, but don't water it until it gets roots.

Cinnamon is absolutely not good for plants
I don't use or recommend cinnamon. I'm not sure about the hobbyist community, especially that on Fakebook, but cinnamon is not used in any commercial-scale cactus operation that I have ever seen.

Lots of people who don't know better recommend it to others as something safe to use (like the guy I was replying to) but they don't realize how bad their advice is!

I used cinnamon at the recommendation of another user (or maybe I read it somewhere ) last year when I cut down a bunch of bridgesii, with no issues. β¦Though I did have have them sitting like 3 feet from a fan on high for a few days while they calloused up.
