Quitting cannabis, medication to help sleep? 2

I have smoked everyday for 11 years and tried to quit before without any medication but the lack of sleep is so crippling and horrible. My plan was to maybe go to the doctor and ask for some sleeping pills just for the first week or two. And for the day time I can microdose for a week or two hopefully that will help.
Any tips or tricks?

Exercise, eat right, go to church, brush your teeth, read a book, shower no less than every other day, drink plenty of water.
I know crack heads that swear by benadryl.
They say folks who quit smoking weed go back to regular sleep after a couple weeks, but who the fuck are "they" really?

Well I am "they". I was kind of forced to quit weed a few weeks back.
Besides a lot of exercise, I did nothing other than biting my teeth together and push through. I wasn't a heavy user though... It's has been a bit difficult to find sleep during the first few days, but once I slept I got rewarded with the trippiest dreams.
I think 2-3 weeks have gone by now and I don't have any issues falling asleep anymore. Maybe it takes me half an hour instead of 5 minutes to fall asleep, but I feel overall I need way less sleep and feel pretty well rested in the morning.
Edit: If I can do that, you can do it too.

Thanks for the encouragement people. glad your doing so well fridgedoor nice to hear of your success. I honestly don't mind going without weed if I am busy but when I have nothing to do I just get high and the worst part is not getting enough if any sleep atall and that is the scary part of quitting for me is no sleep. If by church you mean hyperspace then yes absolutely but not on Sundays.

I'd grab some CBG and some CBN for night time use. Hemp flower for daytime use wouldn't hurt either if you are still in the habit of smoking. CBD is the most common, but it is also a mild stimulant, so perhaps not the best for the afternoon hours.
I'd probably also grab some Sleepytime Extra tea. My mother uses that and another herbal sleeping supplement with valerian root.

I'm very familiar with a change in sleep patterns when stopping smoking. One thing that makes it worse is to be upset about it. There's no good reason to be upset. Or think of it as "crippling and horrible".
Realize it's a temporary situation, as your body and mind adjust to the change. Even the worst-case scenario, if you get zero sleep for the first night or 2 or even 3, it's not a tragedy. You will survive quite fine.
If you are awake all night, you get a bonus 7 or 8 hours to do things you enjoy. How about reading a book you've been too busy to crack open. Or watch a movie or two? Organize your closet. Put a positive spin on it by noticing some benefits.

That's a positive way to look at it thanks. Your right. Its more of a fear I have of the consequences of getting no sleep the first some days are going to be the hardest

Ha lol. I could not go without sleep very long. I either have to parent 4 busy kids or work in a highly regulated position that doesn't tolerate tiredness.
Today was my first day without pot it sucked. Can't imagine the withdrawals from harder drugs
Took a couple days off work to suffer in the comfort of my home.
Looking forward to dreaming again is been a long time

Exercise and learning new things that exhaust your mind are the two best ways to fall asleep in my opinion.
Ive heard foods high in fat help too. And theres always turkey.

Exercise and tiring yourself out mentally really are the only helpful long-term options IMO, maybe meditation and trying the basic "sleep hygiene" stuff as well. I've never had any luck with any of that though in acute insomnia.
Every sleep med I can think of will have a rebound effect that makes it even more difficult to sleep when you try to stop it, if you take it for more than a few days in a row.
For natural a high dose of Valerian mixed with a high dose of L-theanine did the trick for me, tolerance builds quick and even with these I got rebound insomnia.
Benadryl has worked occasionally for me but I end up feeling worse when I wake up than I would have if I just stayed up all night. Benzos or gabapentin have worked great in the past for me, but obviously they have their own issues. Trazadone, mitrazapine, hydroxyzine are all pretty easy to get prescriptions for and work decently, they all had tons of side effects for me though

I used to take 1/2 Benadryl nightly. It works great for sleep. I quit when I read there is new evidence linking long-term use to increased risks of dementia.

Exercise is the only thing that worked for. Go to the gym and lift heavy ass weights.
