I was gifted a plate pin of these, i know from reading this thread that plins might not be the best source for clones but if i can get it to fruit Iβm happy to go back to spores since its my only source for this species rn
Anyways my Q- I have a fully colonized grain bag i was ready to spawn but i see that some level of consolidation is helpful. How ling should i wait? And i have coir, manure, sawdust, alfalfa pellets. Was planning on straight coir grow but since i see proper pasteurization is important and Imm using weeks old bucket tek coir, I was wondering if i should add anything pre pasteurizing.

Bro these are absolute beauties! Which culture is this?
My Melgo culture's second flush consists of 2 tiny mushrooms π
Plus some mold appeared in the casing. Could be the end of it.
The Ambrose culture caps are turning DARK blue, which probably means they're aborting so I won't see spores from them. Sorry folks.
This is either V.L's or directly from CaptainFuture. V.L's also originally came from CaptainFuture, if I remember correctly. I'll print them if you want. I do have another one I cloned in the pipeline.. I really love the natural look of those even more (bell-shaped, pretty large caps) and intend to make prints from those.
If the mold is just on the casing, remove the entire casing and see if it recovers.. who knows, I recased molded zap casing and I'm not seeing mold 1 month in now (messed up by using peat humus, I do like Inski's recipe, nice and crumbly)

and Captain Future got his first print from me.. this flush actually.
and I got it from Workman. Wow. What a small OMC it is.

Aye, of those I would use the coir. Still not my preferred sub, but it works ok. Never tried the others you listed. Straw or just straight millet are my favorites and maybe it's just me, but the millet grown seem much stronger. Summons the Octostumps and shadow people lol. I've also had great success with used yerba mate tea and bamboo leaves. I've found them very forgiving when it comes to consolidation. Too long is better than not enough. They'll even fruit on spawn after pinning invitro in most cases.

Oh yeah! I read that indeed in one of Captains journals (he collected them somewhere on a page). Wow, would be nice if i can return you a print ! (also from zapotecorum once I grow some mature ones) I'll do that when I have some

Anyone have time scale for spore droppage?
Last time I collected spores it was about three weeks, but only for one batch, others didn't yield prints even after gills darkened. These boys are about a month old, and gills only begin to darken, I think I'll wait a bit longer. this is a second flush from a dried out cake, and the pins were growing on the bottom before I turned it around.

Can I have your advice please? I've spawned some millet to straw and can't decide if and how to case it. [edit: I'm planning to do it with just coir] Also what do you mean by straight millet? Is it a way to go - to do like mexicana - put a layer of spawn and case it?

Dear Subtropicals,
I have two jars ready to go, these will be my first and i am happy to look at such beautiful spawn. I like the ropey nature of the mycelium after full colonization. although i have started to read through the whole thread, i dont want to rush as its so interesting to read it all.
What do you think, i thought i'd pasteurize a coir/straw mix (60/40) for 2 hours and spawn 1:2 (spawn:sub) wait for colonization and case with half an inch (or better more?) pasteurized peatmoss/coir/gypsum.
I wanted to keep everything slightly under field capacity. Shoebox, Latched until coloniztation and one weeek after casing, then unlatch to keep RH high. Do they need more FAE?
any mistakes so far? please advise me if you have better ideas.. i have grown cubensis and natalensis so far.
Thank you mushta la victoria siempre

Most casings will work, but for these I prefer cactus soil due to the extended life span. Nothing will outlast cactus soil except higher maintenance vermiculite. You can see in several of my pics hints of algae, mildews and even a few have had moss.
Straight millet would be simply cased grains. I typically don't skimp on grain and prefer a clean hulled millet. Pearl Barley has become a favorite as well.
In regards to FAE. The more the better. These are big time air chasers.

If they have to reach for air then you may also have troubles collecting spores.
Moopers and Melgo. Sweet threads!

Two 6qt shoeboxes of Melgo yielded 90g dry, 45g per quart of millet spawn. Crikey!
Xico is still sparse and slow, but clones appear to have taken OK, and fruits are big. 1.5g dry on the biggest, and stuff coming up now looks a little bigger still, with larger caps and very thick stems.
Xico does NOT tolerate heavy mists like Melgo did. Xico has been aborting occasionally after a heavy mist. Cross your fingers! Not sure what it likes yet, but the same sub and conditions that produced wall to wall flushes for Melgo multispore are not doing as well for Xico. It's a lot less domesticated is all I can guess.

All these differences, that's just fascinating! I'd be super curious to grow Semp from a different lineage from the one I have going atm.
On another note, I'm coming out of 3 grams Cyanescens trip. To be honest I'm disappointed, it wasn't very strong in terms of visuals and the energy didn't feel great. Lots of dark thoughts and I just couldn't help myself comparing the trip to Semperviva. Maybe I'll give it another try in a year or so.
I yet have to go on higher doses with Natalensis which I feel has a lot of potential, but for me "Mex. A" and Semperviva (especially Semp) are my favorites! Hands down. I've reached the point where I don't want to grow any other active than Semp! Which will save me time (who am I kidding?! I've just started growing gourmets...)
Also, I've been microdosing 65 mg of Semp every other day (on average, sometimes I forget to take the caps) for the last couple of month. This plus daily meditation, daily reading, the usual weightlifting regimen and started habit tracking too from Atomic Habits (Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results by James Clear) - it's a really nice synergy. I feel way calmer and even keeled. I defo feel the Semp microdose makes me happier, it gives me a more positive outlook on Life, it makes me more present focused (whereas I have a bit tendency to live in the future only).
Anyway, those are my middle-of-the-night-can't-get-to-sleep-yet 2 cents
Good job on the growths everyone

The highest I've gone with natalensis was 3.5 grams and the body high was so strong I don't think I have the balls to go higher. I felt very warm and cozy, but if I stoop still for long enough I would start to go numb starting from my feet and working its way up my body.

I've taken up to 6g dry with nats and only noticed a slight difference in it's effects. They aren't very visual in my experience, more of a good body high with tons of energy after fighting through an initial tiredness. I do have a natural high tolerance though. My buddy that tried them won't go over 2 or 3. He said they rocked him pretty good but nothing that was heavy like a cube trip. Nats are all he wants to do now. I can't wait to try these semps. If they are anything like I've read about I'll probably stick with these for a while and forget about cubes. Still need to try pans too. Quick question, I have a pretty big semp that seems super tough. I squeezed it and it will not flex at all. The one next to it is slightly soft and flexes quite a bit when squeezed. How fibrous are these things and is it normal for them to be that hard.

If you're interested, I have one print from this grow and can share it, I bought this species from Angam and it was lc. He only told me it comes from the US, so I don't know the lineage.

And hopefully I'm getting at least couple of prints from the shrooms that are maturing right now, the initial spores are from captainfuture
