Poison Drink said: Not the best flush but considering these are growing in a room temperature of about 16-17°C, I should probably not complain but rather work on my timing.. I left them to mature for a long time waiting for spore production, but when some nipples started turning a darker color, I decided to harvest them. Almost no spores dropped during printing, even though it's a clone culture from an old grow that did drop thick prints. Might try again when it's warmer.

Gorgeous caps, well done!

Skin from a 4 month old jar. Peeled it and spawned the wbs inside.

Gonna dry and powder it.

Melgo's culture has long been harvested while the Ambrose still has no SIGNS of spores. Should I wait? 😅 The pinning started around 20. Feb so it'll be a solid month soon.

I would wait. I almost ALWAYS get spores if I'm super patient. There have been one or two trays I never got them on, but most of them will eventually produce. It's possible those might not be getting enough moisture on the fruits themselves - IE humidity is good enough for healthy growth but not enough for spore production - they look a tad light dry in that pic but it's hard to tell in photos.

Thanks. The Melgo produced spores totally fine tho, without a single mist during the entire growing period.

Look at this beautiful caramel color!
Of course you have to wait, we want them spores

Hi all can someone help me with the following; I recall there was a dry:wet ratio mentioned somewhere for subtropicalis. I believe someone mentioned;
1gr dry == 7gr wet
Can someone confirm this? Thank you in advance.

Mine were all 7-8% dry weight. Most right at 8. Also... good a time as any since I gave all my prints/swabs away accidentally:
Edit: thanks to the person who reached out 🤙

A well, good excuse to grow some more right? I noticed I had solely 2gr of dried bisporus left, need to grow that one again.
But that is what this hobby is about, grow and share without expecting a thing in return. just lightens ones heart. Thanks for the info.. but 8% dry weight is less than I expected.. so for 2gr dried you need 25gr fresh. Hm ok, I'm thinking about making an acidified tea with fresh subtropicalis.. and freeze that into ice cubes, never tried fresh, would love to give that a go.

Ambrose culture is still not even producing spores. Waiting patiently for its time. The caps are opening more and more tho.
Here's my post where I've measured 11% dry weight. That is with no misting the entire time. People tend to mist them a lot so the real numbers are gonna be lower.

I have a few pins and 1 decent sized fruit coming up from a shoebox spawned on 2-6. I had a few pins and knots but everything stalled. I let the surface dry a bit and cased with slightly over field capacity coir layer about .25 inch about a week ago. I believe this was a slightly bacterial spawn so I wasn't expecting much from it and I'll be happy with what I get from it. I'm planning on cloning the biggest one which was also first to show up. Anyone know what causes this to happen to the stem?

I had one really tall semp grow earlier than all the others, so I pulled it to clone. When I ripped it in half the stipe was hollow and completely filled with liquid. It kinda looked like that one you’ve got there, Bigworm.
Hope I get some more normal looking ones.

Damn I hope it's not full of liquid. I have another tub colonizing now with much better spawn. I'm excited to try these. Looks like you got some good one starting out. Hopefully you get a decent yield.

When I see stem peeling, I assume verticillium, but I'm no expert.

So I'm experimenting with straw now, this is mostly straw with a little coir addition. Spawn is g2g millet.

Planning to case it with coir. What do you guys think? Shall I make it wet, or shall I make it dry? Or let it sit like that with no casing? If someone had experience with straw - do they pin on straw like cubes?
(btw, I'd be grateful for the same advice with mexicana(galindoi), as the straw is fully colonized and I don't know if I should case it, because cubes are already past primordia state and I'm letting them roll like that)

Here second flush is taking it's time producing spores. Have to admit I really love their caramel cap, beautifull color.

Bro these are absolute beauties! Which culture is this?
My Melgo culture's second flush consists of 2 tiny mushrooms 😅 Plus some mold appeared in the casing. Could be the end of it.
The Ambrose culture caps are turning DARK blue, which probably means they're aborting so I won't see spores from them. Sorry folks.
