48 years to "only" leaving a couple of billions starving.

What's changed in the first world over that 48 years?  Sure, the third world will get better scraps as the first world improves.  That doesn't make the third world any closer to equality than they were 50 years ago.

These things take time. Humanity is still recovering from its 'recent' rebirth. Most of the souls here are still very young it seems; some may be old and corrupted though, and unfortunately many of them may be in power, but I believe in time things will improve, but we must believe it, we must do our best to think positively and act positively and speak positively etc. Through such collective effort larger changes and movements may develop. I believe. I know deep down you and yours do as well. But we have been hurt, and sometimes that hurt takes time to heal.

Sure, if you believe that humans are adept at choosing advantageous genes.  All I have to do is look at a pug to know that isn't the case

Human nature isn't going to change.  Humans will eventually become extinct, however, so there is hope for the future.

This might sound too good to be true, but I believe it is a possible timeline we could end up experiencing. Time will tell.

Can you give an example when technology has ever been used to prop up the third world like that?  Malaria is still thriving in the third world.  Billions still have no toilets.  If something as simple as vaccines can't be shared equally around the world, what makes you think that the third world will be enjoying robotic labor anytime in the future?

The haves will never give up anything for the have-nots.  That is a simple fact of human nature and has been true since prehistoric times.

Half the world may not have toilets, but more than half the world has a cellphone.

They want guarantees that they aren't training their own replacement.  It wouldn't make sense to strike after they've been replaced by chatbots.

It's foolish AI and automation take-over is inevitable. Only a foolish society would try to hold it back. UBI must be put in place asap tho. alongside tighter immigration restrictions... US can't afford to pay UBI to everyone; but we could help other countries gain access to AI and iRobot style automation which would remove the need to immigrate to America for better opportunities.

There are still big barriers between what we have now and iRobot type shit. The mechanical aspects of it alone... you'd need a hand that is sensitive and precise but devices like that tend to be easy to damage. So you're stuck with either a hand that breaks easily or one that easily breaks the things it grabs. There was a story a while back about a chess playing robot breaking a boys finger, by accident I hope. You can't have stuff like that happening.

Well that's to be expected at first. As AI continues to develop exponentially I wouldn't be surprised if it finds a solution.

I think we've hit the most important milestone though. People now believe advanced AI is within reach and are willing to invest money in it. After a decade of Elon Musk repeatedly promising full self driving cars by the end of the year and failing people started to see the promises of AI as a grift which in that case it was. I'm not saying full driving cars won't happen, just that it would take real professionals to develop them.  They're not going to come about as part of some mentally unstable billionaire's pet project.

Is that hopeful for total oblivion after we are all wiped out, or are you banking on being reincarnated as a Llama or something?

Of course Mr shroomery political forum moderator! And I know exactly to whom you refer (and were originally referring) by this more ‘highly evolved dominant’ species! And fear not councilor, for I’m quite sure, even in a massively depopulated planet, there will still be opportunities for cynical amoral propagandists!

Well, maybe…
