I don’t have any Heavenly Blue this year but happy to be growing two types I harvested myself for the first time!

This is all the cuttings that I've taken from my Heavenly Blue mother plant, so I don't have to do the seeds route. She is a cloning machine!
She was originally a cutting that I took back last fall before the main plant bit the dust, and now she is offering me tons of cuts to put out next month.
I'm trying the water rooting method this time around, so we shall see if it works
Looks like you're going to have a nice display this year Sheekmeister

Awesome! I would love to be taking cuts, especially of Heavenly Blue, water rooting is all I really know.. have not tried it with Morning Glories. Which method are your others? You using rooting hormone?? Looking forward to seeing yours kick into gear!!

Thanks buuudy!
The original mother plant was done using rooting hormones, but I wanted to see if this would be faster and easier, wish me luck!
How's your success rate for rooting them in water?

Oh I never rooted Morning Glories that way, I have done it with things like sweet potatoe vine and pereskiopsis. If its possible to do for MG I am gonna be taking all sorts of cuts this winter.
I really wanna try crossing some too!

Oh, ok, well I'll keep you posted on mine then
I'd like to try some hybridizing too! I have all kinds that will come back from last years crop, so I may give it a whirl!

I need to go check last years bed, for every pod I picked I crumbled one over the surface, I am sure I would have missed enough either way but I really want them to self seed every year. Do you know if vines that had died back over the winter come back to life? I see full wooded vines on chainlink fence all over my neighborhood that are dormant and return with force

Morning glories are actually perennials in their native tropical environment, especially Heavenly Blues. If you live in a suitable climate, they can live for years, and develop thick woody trunks.
Here, mine die and that's it, but if you live in zones 10 or above they definitely will come back, if they even die back at all.
I get hundreds of sprouts every year, and I have to kill tons because they pop up all over my yard. If you crumbled your seeds pods and let the seeds drop, then you'll have the same thing too

Nice! I live in 9B and think with the right care I could probably keep em outside year round, maybe need a couple seasons to establish a trunk though! Thanks for sharing dude.

Yes, you probably can for sure
My heavenly Blues took multiple rounds of freezing cold before it go too much for them, and I know that you don't get remotely as cold as I do, so give it a try
and no problemo buddy

Mine has been growing in my window sill since November. It climbed all the way up the blinds, nearly to the ceiling, before I cut it and made all those cuttings. I have even had them flower indoors as well

Anytips on indoor soil? My home is prone to pests, old and poorly insulated. Ants have just initiated their first attack of the season, seeking my cats food/water and were met with swift dustings of DE!
I would love to have vines indoors..

Thanks Logical ! Do you have any resources on content of non-heavenlyblue varieties of MG seeds?

They will grow in any type of soil, including very poor soil, and sand. I used to live in Florida, and my yard was pure sand, but that didn't keep the morning glories from growing.
These are the top varieties, and the strongest.
Heavenly Blue, Pearly Gates, Flying Saucers, Wedding Bells, Blue Star, Summer Skies and Scarlet O Hara. Heavenly Blue is the most potent followed by Pearly Gates.

Wow, I didn’t realize they were such survivors, though they must be if I have kept them to seed! I don’t know amendment or nutrients or anything. I just know organic inorganic drainage water.
Ill try and see if I can make a super budget soil for cuttings
I didn’t realize my scarlet oharas were in the preferred group Thanks!

Yeah man they will thrive with very little care at all
I have actually tried all the others that I mentioned, except for Scarlet O Hara but I did read that they too contain decent amounts LSA as well. So that one you may have to find out for yourself

I'm considering trying to grow morning glories on a small trellis in a south facing picture window indoors. It would almost definitely be grown strictly as an ornamental, but I might be curious about some minor experimentation with trying a threshold/museum dose of LSA seeds in conjunction with a full visionary dose of mushroom tea to see how it may influence the experience.
To that point, HBWR is far stronger and even if I weren't to consume it, as an ornamental the pictures of flowers look even cooler to me. So has anyone grown HBWR, and if so is it just as easy to grow as morning glories?
