Casing layer question
    #2822883 - 06/24/04 02:56 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Is it alright to simply redistribute the top casing layer as an alternative to making a new mixture of layer for patching? It's my first time casing, and I was wondering if, as a temporary alternative to sterilizing a new batch of casing layer, if I could move some of teh the layer around and cover some of the more aggressive patches of mycelium. It's day 5 of incubation, and I've already done this for 2 days with sucess, but do you guys reccomend I just mix a batch up and sterilize? I obviously cleaned the tools I was using to move the coir around. Thanks everybody

you don't need to sterilize your casing layer...the key to having a casing layer stay contam free is using fresh water..the only time I've had a casing layer contam before the first flush was when I had it sitting in a bag at fc already for about a week or so before casing...you can keep coir expanded tho just as long as you add fresh water to bring it to fc right before you case..and I always add a lil h202 for good measure

EDIT: I have heard of ppl just moving around the casing layer thats already there apposed to patching...I've never done it but I'm sure it would work ok tho patching with more casing material is probably the best way to go
