Someone you were friends with gave you the idea behind something that became passive-income. How much in royalty do you pass onto them? If it's in the 7 figure 8 figure or even 9 figure range a year

Whatever is on your conscience.
I would say something in the 10-20% range would be fair if he provided the idea only and no actual work or investment capital to get it rolling.
Hard to say for sure without knowing the details of the circumstances that you came to be in possession of his "idea".

From the information you have given. Your not obligated to give anything. Comes down to what you feel will satisfy your conscious.
Don't forget that if you do give that friend some percentage of money, make sure you do it in a discrete manner. Your friend may have the chance to react in a way that you would not expect. Just think to your self, how will they respond, will they ask for more, will they continue to beg for money and guilt trip you. Just keep these things in mind.

Well assuming a large investment of time and money didn't go into it before the passive. No one quit their job and nothing was on the line. Really I'm just trying to establish a base line for moral code. So society can look at a company and say I don't want to support it, the head behind it is a real ass hat. Didn't really seem to me that Mark Z owed the twins shit but he still paid out a nice settlement.

I agree with 10-20% depending on what it is.
