In terms of other STIs that aren't HPV, I can ask someone to get tested before sleeping with them.

I know that having sex with other humans puts me at risk for STIs and choose to take that risk to sleep with other people because I want to sleep with that PERSON.

In fact before I sleep with someone I ask myself if it is worth contacting high risk HPV and the inconvenience that comes along with that. "Do I want to sleep with this man badly enough that I'm willing to undergo repeat PAPs, colonoscopies, and potential LEEP procedures of he gives me a high risk HPV strain?"

Why would I use another woman's sex toys when I have a variety of high quality well cared for and properly stored sex toys of my own to choose from?

It wasn't a question of "would you actually?" when obviously there's really no good reason to use a used dildo.  It was simply to make people think about the difference in ways these things are viewed

And that's a helluva a lot of things to thing about before screwing someone and I'd say the answer would normally be "no, it's not worth all that".  I'm guessing there isn't much spontaneity in your sex life.  What's wrong with just using a rubber?

In my 20s, my sex life was rife with spontaneity. Right now I'm in a season where focusing on my career/education/health/hobbies/existing relationships are highest priority and frankly living in a town with like 2000 people in it leaves no room for spontaneity  of the sex life and I'm not about mixing energy in that way with just anyone. My standards are higher than they were in my younger years and the pool is much smaller.

The reason I elaborated so much was because your response was riddled with inaccurate information and I'm not one to make a point without backing it up.

It also shines light on the difference in which men and women might be viewing "these things" as a used flesh light is less likely to cause you a UTI, yeast infection, pH imbalance, or give you a strain of HPV that will need to be monitored until you clear it or it causes abnormal cells that need to be treated with uncomfortable and inconvenient procedures. It's just not something men have to think about.

It's easy to say "it's just psychologically dirty" if you don't actually understand women's health and haven't done a bunch of research on insertable sex toys and their materials because it's not something you have had to do to take care of your own health.

Rubbers are great. I have used them with all of my partners since I was last in a committed relationship. HPV is spread via skin to skin contact and can be contracted with a rubber. So I still ask myself, "is this person worth it?"

HPV is not something I had to think about til my 30s, which is when women are routinely tested for it in the U.S. as that is when those pesky high risk strains are likely to stick around and need to be monitored. They don't test for it in your 20s unless abnormal cells present with other routine testing, because your immune system is stronger in your 20s.

Usually it's harmless, as in has a low mortality rate when treated and monitored appropriately, but inconvenient nonetheless. I have 3 friends who had hysterectomies before 40 due to HPV that did not clear after multiple colonoscopies and LEEP procedures. All of that is very inconvenient.

Men just get to have HPV and never know, so you don't have to worry about it or take it into consideration, so it's likely easier to sleep with people just for the sake of getting laid even if maybe they don't meet your standards or you feel "meh" about them but you still want to get laid.

So yeah. In my 30s my attitude is "is this person high quality enough/ do they meet my standards/ is the chemistry strong enough" to contract a high risk HPV strain? If someone isn't a "fuck yes" they're a "fuck no."

This is an excellent response, I commend you for putting the effort into writing it and bringing awareness to others what a gynecology appt is like. For anyone who doesn't know, LEEP and cone biopsies involve burning and cutting away cervical tissues as well as multiple office visits requiring the insertion of a speculum. Some women are OK with speculums, other women experience a visceral emotional reaction just to the word "relax" let alone having an object 5x larger than what is needed for a prostate exam inserted to the posterior region of their vaginal canal.

I personally as a man would not use someone else's sex toy because I can just buy my own. If it was my monogamous partner's sex toy, then I would use it because that's kinky as fuck and I already do that.
