What type of TBM did I get?
    #28211631 - 03/02/23 08:10 PM (10 months, 21 days ago)

The person I bought this TBM didn’t know which type it was. Any identification help would be much appreciated.

secondly I’m looking to get a couple columnar cacti. Which are known to be the most consistently potent?  San Pedro, Bolivian Torch, other……. thanks in advance for any help!

It looks to be short form, which luckily for you if you’re looking for an experience is known to be one of the most potent. As for acquiring some more cacti, bridgesii are consistently high(er) in mescaline content than other Trichocereus. You don’t need to splurge too much money on a named clone, any one will do so long as you let it grow out to a foot or two.

If you’re looking to consume your TBM I would put it outside somewhere it can get decent sun and let it grow out for a while. People have reported 3-4 golfball sized cuttings resulting in medium to heavy trips.

Thanks so much for your response. I’m new to this hobby. I have another TBM and was going to get a columnar Bridgesii.  This is pretty cool stuff

Looks like a short form to me. Welcome to the bridgesii club. It's addictive, I have like 5 different types of TBM now.

Thanks! About how long can I expect to be able to harvest enough for an experience, and keep my beauty healthy for future harvests?  I’m guessing at minimum next year….?

If you let it grow, take care of it, cut only as needed... it will live with you the rest of your life! Or you can eat it all now and try your best to remember it!

I plan on having both of my TBMs for life, I have a green thumb. I’m new to this hobby and definitely don’t want to take too much too soon to harm them. I’m looking for realistic goals or expectations for growth rates, so I can have a tentative timeframe to plan a road-trip.

I came across a Reddit post where the guy grows his in straight Bio char and feeds them a liquid salmon fert and cactus Jones fert. His cacti grew like crazy, per his photos.

I’m running an experiment. The TBM in the photo is in a 50/50 mix Ocean Forest soil and inorganic rocks. I put the other in 100% biochar. I’m going to use the same salmon and cactus Jones fertilizers on both to see the results after a year.

Either way I’m excited on finding a new hobby!

Yeah I know that guy on reddit, it's an interesting experiment to follow. Seems a bit excessive to me though lol idk if I would do all that stuff with the tubes and the clear container I guess so he can see the roots grow, but he did turn me onto biochar and I'm planning on making that a big component in my next soil mix. There is also that guy using his aerogrow for tbms, I'm curious about trying it but I want to figure out what he has going on with the foil and stuff.

Nice! Yeah I’m not doing tubes and all that. They’re just going to be regular house/deck plants in terracotta pots.  I’m planning on sharing the progress between the two after the growing season. Hopefully it’ll be a helpful experiment. The TBM I planted in biochar is a small pup so if biochar is a game changer it’ll be evident.

That’s pretty cool! If I had the disposable money I’d do it.

Dang really? How many segments though? The succulent source sells one gallon ones for like $130, heck the 8in pot ones are $100, but these are plants with 10-15 segments.

That pot can't be more than 5gal, they don't necessarily need all the extra space cacti.com is selling em with imo
