Stroke
    #28142444 - 01/16/23 07:59 AM (1 year, 12 days ago)

I know that this isn't a replacement for advice from a medical professional. I had a stroke about 3 years back from complications of diabetes. Does anybody know if shrooms could cause further complications?

If your concern is the risk of mushrooms causing a second stroke, I've never heard of anyone having a stroke from them. They can increase your blood pressure and they do cause changes in blood flow throughout the brain, so it might be possible that if you're already at high risk of a stroke that they could trigger one. I'd definitely ask your doctor, or even ask on one of those "ask a doctor" subreddits or websites.

There's new research being done on using DMT, which acts pretty similar to psilocybin, in stroke patients to increase neuroplasticity and improve their outcomes in recovery. I'm interested to see what the results will be

I'd rather stay away from something like DMT. Do you know the reddit tag?
I certainly plan to ask my doctor this month. The blood pressure increase is a concern though. Micro dosing may be of benefit too.

Just curious, are you intending to use mushrooms to help heal from issues caused by the stroke?

No one can tell you for sure because no one really knows. There would have to be legitimate medical research into the subject, which hasn't been done. So it's up to you if you want to take the risk.

I can’t safely answer this other than my own experiences of mushrooms helping me cope with mine. I had 2 in 2013.

A doctor will say no out of ignorance. They do not have the proper education to answer.
Unless a physician is an addiction medicine physician, they have a one day course. And primary focus is withdrawal, affects and spotting addiction.
This is a good forum to ask because you may find someone with a similar experience as your own.

My GP was Wise enough to tell me that he didn't know enough about the subject to advise me. He also entrusted me to do research, a lot of research. I was advised to read as many reliable sources on the subject as I could find. I plan to ask my psychiatrist and neurologist next visit.

I had stroke in 2012 at age 39. I can't say what is safe. Just to make that clear.

I've done lsd/mushrooms/dmt/5-meo-dmt/nitrous all hundreds of times since the stroke and had no issues. When deciding if I should try a drug post stroke I first look for reports of it causing stroke in anyone. So like cocaine and meth both have caused strokes for sure in many people, enough that I will avoid those drugs for life. Most of the cathinones (like say bath salts) too seem high risk. Alcohol is listed as causing strokes, but i still drink, I wouldn't overdo it though. I have some MDMA that I am afraid to try, you never know.

I don't think shrooms are a risk, but like i said I can't say for sure, its almost certainly going to emerge as a treatment for strokes with neuroplasticity benefits, I dont think science would trend that way if were a risk.

I'm not even 100 percent sure if having a past stroke is increased risk for another. Millions of people have one and then don't have another. Mine was cause by a torn artery so I'm not sure if I have predisposition or it was a fluke and I'm not greater risk than anyone else, its been 10 years.  I did do the whole st8 edge monk thing after the stroke for a while, I want to live my life though, i decided the risk was acceptable

Lysergamides I have tried so far: 1P-LSD, 1cP-LSD, ALD-52, AL-LAD, LSZ, ETH-LAD, MIPLA, EIPLA, 1cP-AL-LAD

My stroke was caused by diabetes which is well under control at this time. I have an A1C of 5.8 at this time. It was 13 with a glucose level of 507 at the time of the stroke. If you know anything about diabetes you know that those levels are fucking crazy high.

All other health issue are fine, except my mental health. I have a long history of depression, and since the stroke I tend to have some big mood swings. I'm now classified as having emotional lability. Some articles I've read advises to avoid cubes if any of these factors are there. ( Tis one ) In other articles it point to cubes helping with these issues so it's rather confusing.
I made another post addressing concerns about that in another thread, but didn't get much of a response. So fuck it I will move forward with microdosing at first then move on from there.

I have also read that there are many health benefits in some gourmet shrooms, but I hate the taste so I will most likely make capsules from them.

Thank you from all for the response. Fell free to PM me if you have anymore advice. I very much like to pick the brains of the "experienced" as Jimmy Hendrix would say.

I thought mushrooms cause vasoconstriction, I know LSD does.

If you have complications from a stroke then vasoconstriction is not a good thing and you should probably avoid the mushrooms.

I'm still doing my research. The biggest worry is a bad trip. I don't want to go down that road. I have enough bad shit going on in my head already.

Make sure you're taking the statin and other stuff too. Some of the stroke risk factors for diabetes are independent of A1C.

As far as the shrooms go. I'd definitely start with a low dose if you're going to do it. That's a good idea. pick a nice relaxed time and day when you don't have any stressors. I'm not sure what your background is with  drug use, but a bad shroom trip is way easier to avoid if you dose low and pick a good set and setting beforehand.

I take all my meds everyday. I have extensive experience with weed, and have done salvia a handful of times.

Avoiding stressors will be difficult. So will the right setting.

I plan to start at 100mg then work up from there.

As far as stroke,
I had one over a year ago as a complication cased by a thrombosis in heart.  I am personally more incline to stroke for the rest of my life.  As your stroke cause is completely different am not sure it applies.  I am strictly a micro guy with my health concerns but the peace of mind it delivers is far beyond any modern medicine solutions.

That is not why I am replying as a great friend of mine struggles with diabetes I would like to offer some research we are reading through together.  The goal is to incorporate good eastern medicine with modern methods.

I've been told that after a stroke you are more susceptible to subsequent strokes.

I control my diabetes with diet meaning zero carbs, or at least less than 50g a day.

Thank you for the information.

5.8% from 13% is pretty damn impressive.
