deadly advice?
    #2820058 - 06/23/04 07:04 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i was at another site and someone was asking if the shrooms they have are ok because they have turned "black" after a week of sitting in a paper bag

someone there said
"if i was you i'd extract the good shit out of them, even if they are deathtraps but make sure you know your dose cause psylocibin is heaps stronger on its own than mushrooms"

from what little i know about shrooms, this sounds very bad to me
is it bullshit or true?

There are basically two causes of mushrooms turning black:

1) The oxidation of Psilocybin. This is the same thing as bruising blue.
2) Rotten fruit

In case 1, the fruit will be fine to consume, but will be much weaker than what you would expect. In case 2, you should toss it in the trash.

Rotten fruit is pretty easy to detect by smell. If they smell like a septic tank, throw them out.

Extracting from rotten fruit is just as likely to pull out any toxins as it is magic. If you have rotten fruit, toss it in the trash.

Regarding the "psylocibin is heaps stronger on its own than mushrooms"... this is a misleading statement. Per weight, psilocybin is the same strength regardless of it being consumed pure, or from within a fruit. Pure extracts will be absorbed faster, since the body doesn't have to digest the fruit to get to them, so the onset will be very quick.

Just another spore in the wind.
