Undesirable Microdosing Side-Effects

Hello,
I've microdosed mushrooms on-and-off for about 8 weeks total. I've initially started with some gyms, then cubes. I could not stomach the gyms, as they gave me heart burn of sorts (weird...). Cubes, on the other hand, I had zero problems with. I stopped microdosing a month ago. The on-and-off part being mostly due to... Not being able to stomach the mushrooms.
I've also had two trips on mushrooms, one before I started microdosing, around four months ago. The other time in between my microdosing gaps, around two months ago. Both times with gyms. The first time was quite mild (visuals with closed eyes, maybe some with open), the second one was stronger (visuals with open eyes). Both times were a little freaky, but I was perfectly fine the next day and following days.
I've stopped microdosing due to dreams at night. At some point, my sleep started to be affected, as I would wake up at night and not be able to go back to sleep. Since stopping microdosing I think the intensity definitely dropped, but the amount continued, from maybe two dreams a week, baseline, to consistently at least one dream per night.
The other, bigger issue, is that I think I started to develop some sort of anxiety. It comes and goes, so far, I've had two difficult days since microdosing stopped. It's difficult in the sense that it's not easy to shrug it off and concentrate on something else, so it basically lasts a whole day and then some. It feels a bit like detachment from reality.
Suggestions?

I've had some similar effects on microdosing, I stoped when started having panic attacks in situations that normally gave me anxiety but never that hard.. I'm just sticking with the bigger doses now.

I mean you can also lemon tek a microdose if you have stomach problems. In my opinion it is all about getting the dosage right, and that can even depend based on the type of cube you have. We still work with livings things so potency will vary.
I've had most success with 0.1g. It gets me more creative and happy. Everything is in Full HD as well if you know what I mean lol. I know people however that swear by 0.2g but that doesn't feel right for me, a little bit too much for work and things of that nature.
My protocol is 0.1g ~4days on & ~3days off

I've been microdosing for about 3 months, and i almost never take a day off. but my microdose is closer to like... 0.3g to 0.4g per day. Do you find it helpful to take days off?

Taking days off feels right to me, you can give the body a couple of days to reset and get rid off the tolerance. There are a lot of people that just use it everyday without a break. I wouldn't recommend it tho.
never tried a 0.4g microdose lol

A lot of factors here. What is the dose you are taking, what time of day, are you on any head meds such as antidepressants? benzos? using cannabis? ssris and psilocybin Cannabis can interfere with some meds, about the 40 minute mark. Cannabis recently started giving me rebound pain, anxiety and nausea. receptors can change sensitivity over years and this is becoming more common with stronger strains and extracts. It might interfere with how shrooms affect us. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK549915/
Strain can be important. https://www.psilopedia.com/post/strains-vs-species?fbclid=IwAR0rmYzBxXLEINZnvBQ7vnMcHdwxnLyqVLms0R_C6jBzhzjgIsTv5fRf5DM And like cannabis, who grows the strain can affect the effects. What medium is it grown on, micronutrients, and harvested at optimal points.
Some meds and shrooms seem to be in this group from reports of others, have dose dependent effects. Larger not always better but smaller not always better either. 100mgs of cubes seems to be a dose that works well for many. Some report that lower doses give more anxiety. For others that is too high and can give some anxiety and much lower dose works better. How fast our bodies clear meds varies greatly depending on the genes for enzymes that metabolize for excretion--mentioned in the cannabis and heart video linked above. I've not heard of this specifically about shrooms but the metabolites of many meds and herbs including caffeine can be active and depending on receptor types and numbers in each of us, the metabolites may have more noticeable effects. Caffeine is one such. For some people they get jitters hours after drinking coffee or tea as the metabolite hits. And the rate at which we metabolize, fast or slow is another variable.
If your anxiety has increased since you STOPPED, that could mean the shrooms were helping. Also shrooms tend to make you more aware of thoughts, mood and body. If you have been blocking as a coping mechanism, reopening to one aspect opens the doors for all. And all content. Too much too soon and bad stuff we're not ready to cope with can pop up.
I've macro dosed quite a few times years ago and started microdosing for depression, anxiety and PTSD processing. I'm finding this is working better than any prescription head med with far fewer side effects. 100 mgs in late afternoon is working best for me. not affecting sleep nor daytime activities. I DO feel a slight buzz, pleasant, mood brighter, vision sharper. This may change in time. I can drive but distracting enough I wouldn't want to be on a freeway or for a long drive. I've tried 2 strains for microdosing and definite differences. One works better for lifting my mood, the other more introspective. I'm retired so my schedule is open to trying different doses, 50 mgs didn't give a detectable effect, higher didn't seem to be more effective. different times of day and for now 3-4 on and 2 off is what my bodymind seems to prefer. Some days I get a definite sense I want some, and others nope don't want it today. What are your goals and expectation for MD?

i'm a bigger guy, not sure if that affects how much of a dose my microdose is...but i've also built up the tolerance like you said. i started out on .2g microdose

all of these dosages seem way too high for microdosing long term, thats probably why you're feeling strange
Paul Stammets and other "experts" in the space recommend .05g/day max
So you're 4x the max recommended dose lol

By definition a microdose is sub perceptual. If you’re feeling it, it’s a minidose. Minidosing can be fun but it’s not microdosing.
Calibrate dosage to your body’s own response. My microdose is 0.05mg for “regular” cubes. Sometimes they are stronger so I lower my dose.

That’s not exactly how it works, to make this kind of adjustment would take months of experience with your dosage based on minute and subtle differences over the course of time. Like Dharma said, you are mini-dosing or thresholding as I like to call it, you should find the lowest amount of mushrooms you can feel effect from and then take half of half of that at the most (unless you have a milligram scale then you can be more precise with a number).

I'm at .2g per day 2 days on 1day off.
I started and did it every day for about 3 years. Started seeing stuff breathing and patterns shifting a bit more than I cared for, so now I take every third day off. Sometimes I take it anyway, most times I don't.
