What’s Inski’s recipe?

Also from this observation, would you say it’s possible that the casing layer may not be promoting pins? That they’ll pin from the substrate alone given the right moisture and FAE?

Regarding the latter; I don't know

I feel like there may be something there. So far I have only gotten mature fruits from substrate that was not cased, and that was kept moist by syringe watering (not misting). We’ll see if other grows have consistent outcomes

It was very calcium/mineral rich "soil

@Nichrome, I wonder if during rainy/hurricane season if the rivers swell and flood these areas, bringing an influx of nutrition?

You thinking about supplementing nutrition to the substrate? Maybe adding some slow release nutrients when the substrate is mixed with spawn can work in that regard

Just trying to understand better what 'a year in the life' would be like for the culture Nichrome found. I have some Australian sect. Zapotecorum ready to go to grain again, just in case the outdoor batch didn't survive winter. I do plan to add compost as a nutrition source but also a small amount of powdered chicken feed for minerals and a variety of other things. Might even try a small touch of fish emulsion in a different sub, maybe CV? Could be fun!? I do plan to sterilize my subs BTW, like I normally do.

Yours is on cvg here, has been consolidating for 2/3 weeks now. Curious how long it will take to fruit, is sitting at around 18-20 celcius, the other zaps took almost month or so to pin at that temperature.

What a difference fresh spores make! They've been on agar a few days now.

Yes, PM me since they are not on the vendor list.

New tray of Zaps coming in nice. Not misting this tray, just to see if there is any difference. No aborts yet and they are looking good. One has already hit the lid. Probably another 1-2 weeks for the next tray to start fruiting in the new bubbler setup that has much more head-room and should allow for much taller growth.

My first Zapotecorum print arrived tonight. I love knowing the actual origin of the collected specimen:

La Martinica, Mpo Banderilla, Veracruz, Mexico

Going to Rit agar this evening. Have a second print en route as well. Both will be logged in my LAGM 2023 journal. Major props/kudos to Jordan and Alan!!

Peace & Light,

Seeker604

Also on a separate note from cultivation - zaps appear to print lightly.

That’s not my experience. The print I received yesterday was a dark brown print.

Latest tray is maturing nicely. Still in my fruiting setup that has low head-room so the fruits hit the top before they can reach their full height potential. Next tray is in the taller setup.

Beautiful results Chosen. I just got my spores onto flood plates last night so hopefully soon I'll be going to grain. What grain(s) do you recommend for indoor cultivation? I'll be using my Martha tent that I use for my gourmets (fogger and venting fan). I was planning on using millet for this species, but am open to any recommendations based on your experience. For substrate I was planning on using my standard CVG.

Thanks for any personal insights or experience. I saw in other threads that for you Zaps perform ideally at 72 degrees Fahrenheit, and since I keep my home at 73F all the time, should I bother adding a space heater in the martha tent or just leave the ambient temp at 73F and see how it performs?

Thanks to you and Hindsight for the guidance!  Really looking forward to working with this species.

Peace & Light,

Seeker604
