Im making the switch to oats from wbs and am unsure which tek I want to start with. Soak, no soak, boil till the center is grey, boil set amounts of time, etc. Which is your favorite?

It's about soaking and endospore theory, worth a glance imo.

SPG's seems dead simple: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28175899#28175899
Might try it tonight with my new brewer's bag.

Don't soak, boil 35-38 min until al dente but cooked. Gel-like in the center, not white. I would dry them as much as possible. Almost completely surface dry on the grain. Then cycle them for 2.5hrs, you will get clean spawn every time.

After reading a ton of teks it seems my wbs may have not been hydrated enough as I was just doin a 5 minute simmer at 200 degrees. Before when I did a 24 hour soak it worked out good. Either way I already have a 50lb bag of oats so might as well!

I usually fill a cup put a pad of butter and some salt. Then cover the oats in water . Nuke for a min or so then add a bit of milk and nuke it for another min. Honey at the end.

Try an overnight soak, yogurt with equal parts milk and oats, give it atleast 3-4 hours, add some sugar and blackberries.

Yeah i just find they perform better with extra drying and the extra half hour
There's a write-up in my journal, it's confusing and a rough draft at best, but youre welcome to it. It worked for me.
Bod's oat prep tek has and always will be the gold standard for me.

I do cold soak for 20-24hrs and load wet after letting drip dry for 20 min or throw a hand full of verm in there to suck up excess water after 5 min. Works for me for years.

I slow boil them until a few grains start bursting, generally around 40-45 min. I prefer a pretty slow boil, as I think it hydrates them more evenly. I drain them, spread them on cookie sheets lined with paper towels or newspapers. In my house, they are dry enough to jar in about an hour, certainly two hours (fairly low humidity). I'll stir them with a spoon once or twice. I think the towels wick off enough water that they can feel fairly damp going into the jar, and they are perfect after PC'ing. I PC jars 90 min, bags 2 hours, and they are reliably clean. I periodically keep a few jars around after cooking for two or three months just as a test, and they've always been clean.

I just did SPG's and they turned out better than any other time I've prepped oats. I'll try to remember to report back when there's some good colonization to show off.

This is what I had the best luck with as far as WBS.
Im waiting on a culture to grow out then Im going to try a few different methods.
I tried Bods before and I think I overcooked it.
