Ovoid myc is taking over my oak mulch bed I set up in June. Crossing my fingers I’ll see fruits in the spring

 Got my fall voids

I actually ended up finding quite a few for this time of year. There was a nice fairy-ring of them at a usual spot, just like they'd do in the spring. Pretty weird but lucky find, I'm taking some prints. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get an in-situ pic of that ring

They are still going under the wet leaves. Seent lots of pins should get a solid December flush if it holds off snowing. Not bad getting fresh snacks to munch on this late in fall tho

Really interesting write up on extraction and storage of cubes, but I think the general findings apply to most psilocybes.
Some key findings
mechanical damage reduces potency Fresh mushrooms degrade 50% after two weeks Freezing fresh mushrooms destroys almost all the tryptamines Dried and pulverized mushrooms last much longer and have more extractible tryptamines. Dried powder loses 2/3 of potency after 15 months, and psilocin is the primary tryptamine in old dried samples The tryptamines are only slightly degraded by heat up to 100°C , but significantly at 150°C
One thing they didn’t look at is storage of intact dried mushrooms. I would expect it to be better https://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/PREVENTIONWELLNESS/Documents/Stability%20of%20Psilocybin%20and%20Analogs.pdf

awesome article! its what taught me to not chop my mushrooms too much when making tea from fresh. i hope they will also try storage in aqueous solution/extract (tea) and on if anythings lost in making said extract. or is that already included somewhere in there and all the terminology eluded my mental capacity?
on another note, do yall ever encounter ovoids that exhibit minimal or no bruising? if yes, even after picking?

This is last winter in the pnw. A spot was still trying to fruit on Christmas. In an absolutely terrible spot to pick. So we took a few trips in the night and maybe dug up a couple hundred pounds of inoculated wood chips over a few visits. I had so much I started giving some to friends to spread around. One of my friends brought theirs indoors and it fruited. I followed suit. Worked out veryyyy well with little to now matinence besides misting.

Yeah i'd love to hear more about how that was done, it's pretty impressive. You brought pins indoors during the late fall? Or was this material not even fruiting until you brought it inside? I wonder if bringing frozen/cold ovoid myc inside during the winter tricks them into thinking it's spring and fruiting

It fruited for two springs prior. After the second fruiting, it decided to fruit again in the fall. It was near freezing in December when it was dug up, a few pins here and there, but nothing to make it seem like it would fruit that easily. The mycelial mat was super dense and thick, probably a foot deep when they laid it. There were some Hypholoma fruiting in one spot in the chip bed, other than that it was all ovoid. So easy to tell them apart because of the rank smell that is ovoid mycelium. The mycelium also bruised blue very readily. Literally just dug out huge chunks with a shovel. Moved them into bins with a garbage bag in bottom and a halfway on lid. Misted twice daily. Got 2-4 flushes. Bigger more intact pieces did better. That being said, I had ovoids fruiting off of tiny little pieces of myceliated wood chips. A friend of mine had a non see through bin outside that was very neglected and it fruited on and off for over a year. Ovoids are so crazy. You look at the mycelium the right way and it’ll fruit. Highly recommend people try this. Super easy. Then you can just move it back outside with the stem butts in the spring and repeat the cycle if you have the space. Wood lovers year round.
Moria, I think you’re right about the cold shock. There’s a patch I’ve been eyeing to do the same thing with here soon. Will report back if I end up digging it up.
