Around here, morels and ovoids fruit at the same time, so this map is quite helpful for determining when to go out looking

Koods do you think DC Ovoids will beat the mid-March cooldown? Ground cover definitely seems to be a few weeks off what it was last year when voids popped.

My North Carolinian mushroom foray was a bust. Thought the warmer temps would bring about more mushrooms, but it must be really dry. Oh well, back to Jersey next week

Back from Cinci. It was a short hike but I did end up finding a couple prime looking places. Sand doesn’t occur around our riverbanks as much as it does around there.

Bro how big is that last one? Is that a cap growing out of its stipe while there’s whole different stipe coming from the bottom? That’s wild.

Holy FUCK
Dude you've got me so excited for this year's season. Haven't touched a fresh ovoid since June last year and I am more than ready to start picking again.
Unfortunately in Jersey we just got a bunch more snow, but I'm hoping to be out there finding ovoids by April. I think my earliest finds were April 20th 2 years ago, if the rain is good I might be able to beat my record this season

For some id convinced myself they didn’t grow here in crazy numbers like they do further north along east coast but guess just hadn’t found right place yet. I also thought they did best along smaller offshoots of river systems as opposed to larger rivers but I guess I was wrong about that too. Still a learnin. And yeah last one was like a fusion of two or three but only saw one cap

I just noticed my transplanted wild leeks / ramps have sprouted already. And my Japanese maple, which in past years has been in-sync with Koods' pear tree, has buds.
So... that's weird, right? I see everyone else is noticing similar things.
I hate to get my hopes up for an early season only to wait until May.
I also hate that we had no snow and the climate is so noticeably different than when I grew up here. This is really unusual, right?

For DC area this is one of, if not the earliest springs on record. Also no year in recorded Washington-Dulles history has there been less than 2.2” of snow (Winter of 72-73). Right now IAD is at a trace of snow total.
I use Washington-Dulles airport and not Reagan-National since Reagan gets the massive D.C. heat island effect.

The US climate is kinda crazy. Washington DC is approximately the same latitude as Lisbon, Portugal - which almost never even experiences frost. I'm in similar latitude as Vancouver, Canada and we almost never get snow that sticks more than a few days here in the lowlands.
