Evolution is a theory made by Scientists who believed in both God / Sprituality and Magic. To assume evolution is fact before you question the origins and powers of psilocybin is tainting the question before even asking it. It makes sense you wouldn’t experience the magic if you already decided what you believe.

I agree, don't get me wrong. Should have tried growing up in Texas (or most anywhere in the south) with the shit I saw in the late 70's and 80's, holy fuck! Maybe I should rephrase my thoughts. Going to work out, laters gators!

i take that as the pursuit of the unknowable is what drives us. not that the answers themselves are unknowable.
because whats known is nothing and whats unknown is everything. that kinda crap.

I agree but right now we also do not know if the truth is known ... that’s what I am trying to say with the quote. It’s equally incorrect on both sides to assume and work from the basis of knowing with certainty. I don’t know that there is not magic, I just know I have not consciously experienced it or met anybody who was certain they had except for the type of people being referred to by OP

Yeah, I agree with everything you've said here. Drugs are just drugs. Chemicals are chemicals. I'm just glad that there are lots of good rational people involved in psychedelics too.
I think the people who are into all that "mystical" stuff would have been like that anyway, whether they had encountered psychedelics or not. That's just their preexisting mental attitude. Which IMO is really sad. The world is a really beautiful, incredible, amazing place, just from a purely scientific atoms and electrons and chemicals point of view. I feel sad that some people will never get to see that.
But hey, live and let live right. It does bug me like it bugs you sometimes, and people like that can be annoying sometimes, but what are you gonna do. Some people believe in crazy stuff, that's life I guess. I appreciate hearing from someone rational and level headed though, it's always nice to know there are good rational people out there.

That quote is consistent with an empiricist who is looking for rational explanations of real-world observations. Not really the type of guy who would fit the description 'believes in magic'. Pretty much the opposite. Also note the direction his faith apparently developed into: from more or less theist to agnostic - undoubtedly on methodological grounds. I can relate; I've always considered myself an agnost with atheist tendencies, also on methodological grounds.
Moreover, your reasoning doesn't hold much water. The simplified notion that "scientists who believed in God came up with credible theories" is true enough in many cases, but certainly not all. For many groundbreaking scientists, we simply don't know what beliefs they might have held because they were mostly smart enough to not rock the boat in areas where there was nothing to be gained for them. We all know Galilei, who did rock the boat, and suffered the consequences for it. Then there's the matter of trying to equate people engaged in scientific discovery with kids who just spout some hippie bullshit that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The fact that someone who's capable of systematically constructing theories consistent with evidence holds a certain belief doesn't mean that someone else who holds a sort of similar (bot not really) belief is automatically also capable of the same conceptual work. The vast majority of people aren't, which is why the vast majority of people aren't scientists and couldn't become them either.
Your theory is so full of holes that it lacks any coherence whatsoever.

I reckon the full moon, chakra crystal aligned, joss stick waving new age shamans who believe in mushroom gods are hilarious. The look in their eyes is way out there. Can just see all their creative brain cells exploding with enthusiasm when they get deep in their favourite "factual" topics. Things like "ooh wow, really? Tell me more" trigger them into a frenzy where their mind just starts to feed on itself. A sight to behold.
Be free sacred one, spread the good word!
