Having proper field capacity is important but so is depth of substrate. I can’t tell very well by the pictures above, but it looks like you have a thin substrate layer.
Perhaps on your next run you can experiment with a 2”, 3”, and 4” sub level while using the same amount of spawn in each tub.
I’m growing Nats for the first time this year as well, and my one teacher warned me they need a lot more FAE than cubes, but will run on the same type of substrate I use for cubes.

I run shallow shoeboxes and never hydrate for additional flushes. I’ve run 60+ shoeboxes so far and just spam and neglect until harvest. They grow great. Keep coming. And test as strong potency with the PsiloQ tests.
Most recent run:

First flush (66 qt tub):

I could be wrong but I think he’s said he goes 1:1 on those. Man Blue, those fruits look like what I’m hoping for, beautiful. I’ve got a bunch of different myc on agar and I’ve got 3 more nat qts nearly colonized I’m gonna spawn as well. Hopefully I’ll get a few different phenos

I think I had the same exact issue recently for my grow. Second flush has definitely been bigger, but still on the smaller side of what I expected. That said, these flushes don't seem to stop, so what I'm missing out on in size I'm making up for in quantity. Also, potency wise I definitely don't need as much.

My first decent pinset on a nat flush in months:

1:3.5 with 2 qts of spawn, 12 qt tub and havent had to touch it once, thankfully. I live in a super dry climate and shoeboxes have been tough for me to maintain surface conditions but Im using the cheaper sterilite with the white lid, might be allowing too much FAE? BlueAndOrange seems to be having great success with the purple latch style, Ill have to try those.
Sadly typical the past few months:

And the craziest one of all, I decided not to babysit this one and the entire flush was on the bottom

Try the Target brand 6qt boxes as well. I prefer them over the sterilites & they did me well when I lived in the desert.

The spore streaked plates are happily chugging along.

Looking very fluffy so far.

I received a spore syringe of these the other day and put some on agar. I also shot up some grain jars I had sitting around. Since I had time I also did the same with some Z strain and JMF.
Problem is I didnt mark a single one lol.
12 jars ffs.
Anyway, anyone ever mix natalensis and cube spawn together for whatever reason? I reckon the nats would overtake the cube eventually?
Ive have growth in three jars, which is how many I recall doing with the nats. Will the myc show any differences to cube myc?

On grain, nat and cube myc look the same. Once the jar is colonized 100%, nat myc might form big (BIG) tomentose clouds at the top, especially if left to consolidate. It's not always a thing, and some cubes will do that, too.
Safest bet is to spawn each jar to a shoebox and see what you get.

Almost all of my natal jars started to grow little rhizo fans all over the glass when it was near finished so that might be a way to tell the natal apart.
