Is this mould (pan cyan)
    #28171753 - 02/04/23 08:00 AM (1 year, 11 months ago)

One day after casing pan cyan trays with pure sterilized verm i get this kind of growth

Jus wondering whether i missed something. The jars were definitely not contamed , as they had that mushroom smell to them. The mix was 50 50 verm cowpoo... Colonisation took around 3 days... Any opinion would be greatly appreciated

Yeah, that's mold.

Did you sterilize the manure, or pasteurize it?

Do you have any pictures of the colonized spawn jars before you spawned them?

Sorry for the long delay in replying. Here is a pic of a tray that i thought was fully colonised

I left it wrapped in cling wrap afterwards, the same wrap that i used to wrap it while i waited for it to colonize. Then i had to leave town and sure enough, after a week and a half when i came back , the tray had the same mould growing on it.

I thought that they could not get contaminated after colonization.... now im concerned.

Is this an issue with my space you think or with the way that i spawn ?
Spawn was horse poo + verm + gypsum in a 1/1 spawn / grain ratio. Substrate was pasteurized for a bit over one hour and i know i didnt mess that up because a messed up pasteurization usually results in stalled grow plus bacteria

Any thoughts ?

I think you need to pasteurize longer... I used a sous vide and set it @155°F for 8hrs like baba yaga said in his Panaeolus in monotubs write up, to pasteurize cow poo/straw/verm for my cyan grow and I have fruits popping... first time I EVER pasteurized anything

Most threads i read say that going over 90 minutes should never happen... which is why i kept it at a bit over 1h

what was that the internal temp of your substrate when you started your timer?

from my understanding as long as internal temp of the substrate get above 140° and don't get over 160°F, the length of the pasteurization cycle can range from 1-24hrs depending on situation and how much substrate you're pasteurizing
