Side/bottoms pins dried funny
    #28183777 - 02/12/23 10:21 AM (1 year, 10 months ago)

Hello friends,

I flipped over a tub at one point since it had some bottom pins. I guess it had some hiding on the top as well because I came back to ~170 grams that had grown UNDER the substrate. They had extremely long stems with miniature dark brown caps.

When I dried them they became super compact, with near-black caps. Instead of being airy and hollow they shrank when dried. I got 12 grams dry, it's about the same volume as 4 grams of top-side mushrooms (from the same exact tub). They have only a tiny hollow bit in the middle, mostly flesh. They also smell much more intense than normal cubensis. There is no sour or rotten smell, and no visible signs of contamination. I am worried, though, since they were sitting in some water.

I was going to ask if they are safe to eat but I have plenty of regular looking ones. I more so want to compare notes.

Do y'alls side pins have different morphology from the regular ones?

Do you ever get really dark caps after drying?

This happens. It's probably because they got super wet being on the side, they are absolutely safe to eat.
