I have tried to grow mushrooms for several months, but with no result.
    #28183442 - 02/12/23 06:32 AM (1 year, 10 months ago)

I'm a new guy when it comes to growing cubes. I've had at least a dozen attempts at monotub growing. I've tried growing on coco coir and vermiculite, coco coir and zeolite, and pure coco coir. I've also tried growing on coco coir with sodium, coco coir with my grandmother's ash, and with bloody moon rocks, but none of these methods have worked. Mycelium just refuses to grow once transferred. First, it gets fluffed, and then it just gets stuck in this state (like in the picture. In this case it's pure vermiculite).

If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening, it would be very helpful.

Edit: This website is so ancient that I don't know if the image is available. Here is the link to it.- https://postimg.cc/fVz7HrWk

Hello!

Upload that pic to Shroomery and you'll get more answers. We are a bit paranoid here about clicking obscure links...

Also please provide more info on your growing methods. That will get the conversation started

Got it. Finally, I managed to add an image (my god, that interface gives me Korea War flashbacks of 1998 internet).
What do you need to know about growing methods? It was simple grain spawns. I have tried with various sorts of grain with the same absence of result. Mycelium is mostly tomentose, although a couple of times I've managed to isolate rhisomorphic. If you have any specific questions, I would gladly answer.

Wait... your serious?
I see. What happens to your tubs when they stall? They literally just look like that picture indefinitely?

Yep. In the end, mycelium turns grey and then disappears.

if you want easy results do PF. if youre committed to bulk post pics of EVERYTHING. plates, jars, etc. just showing a failed sub doesnt help with diagnosis

I had stalled tubs when my spawn was unclean (was looking good though). Turned out my PC was crap and getting a proper PC fixed the problem.

Does anyone else think the sub is way too dry and fluffy?

Well, I don't understand how it is important. I mean, everything before this step was fine. Mycelium was growing on grain without any problems. Only when transferred to the monotub, there is a problem.

I think it might be a little bit dry, but all monotub surfaces were covered with water drops. So, my guess is that it wasn't dried that bad.

From my father's side. She was 72 years old, had diabetes and osteoporosis. Also, she died because of a piece of moon meteorite that penetrated her body. That same piece of meteorite was used in monotub, as it was me beloved grandma last wish. I added those ashes right away, just mixed them with coco coir properly.

We need a detailed description of each step of your process along with photos of each stage to accompany.

1. Grain prep
2. Sterilization cycle and vent time
3. Technique
4. Clean/efficient culture
5. Filters/lids/bags
6. Conditions: Environmental (spawn run room), and at the substrate surface level (post spawn and full colonization)

Definitely looks that way to me. Are you hydrating your coir properly to field capacity?

But as others have said, I'm real suspicious of your grain spawn quality. Mycelium is very hardy once it's fully colonized its grains. I've used hydrated coco coir sitting in an open bucket for weeks to bulk some grain to substrate, and it worked out just fine. On the contrary, I've used grain spawn that looked almost perfect and just had a small wet/uncolonized spot, and have never gotten any fruits from such beginnings.

it would help if you explain your process step by step.

judging by the picture the surface looks dry and low on field capacity. watch this video:

Are you starting with a spore print, swab,or syringe?
Are you using agar? Or are you trying to go from spores straight to grain?
Are you prepping your own grain or buying it pre sterilized?
How do you know your grain spawn was clean and not bacterial?
How are you spawning your grain?
How are you prepping your coir?
What is your spawn to substrate ratio?
What size tub are you using?
What style of tub are you using? ie # of holes, location, filters, (if any)
I assume you're trying to grow cubes. If not, you're not using the correct substrate.
