Good afternoon fellow shroomers, I am pretty much at the end of my wits with this agar plate, I have no idea what's growing on it.
I Inoculated this plate with cube spores (golden teacher) exactly three weeks ago (worked very sterile; SAB, flame sterilization, lysol, disinfectant, gloves, mask, ...). Temp was always between 21-23°C and the plate was loosely wrapped in seran wrap. For two weeks absolutely nothing grew on them. After 14 days I noticed a small patch of growth that looked promising. As this patch kept growing I was beginning to become uncertain if it really is cube myc, because to my eye it was looking relatively uncharacteristic to the clean agar plates I saw on here. Thinking it is contam I wanted to let it grow out and see what it would do though.
It is now 21 days later and the patch is about 4-5cm in diameter. My thoughts to this so far:
- If it is contam, why did it take 14 days to show first signs of growth, that's uncharacteristic of contam to my knowledge
- If it is contam, why has it not sporulated yet, It has shown up 7 days ago, continues to grow in size but even in the middle it has kept its (off-)white color.
- It most likely isn't cobweb mold (which was my first assumption) because then it would have taken over the whole dish in a matter of 2-4 days
- Considering the sideways macro shots i took, the spikey upward growths don't look like sporophores
- If it is cube mycelium, why the hell is it so patchy and fucky?!
Taking these into consideration I made the assumption: It is most likely not cobweb mold, neither some sort of mold that develops colored spores, neither pin mold. But it also looks atypical to normal tomentose mycelium because of the patchyness, considering that all the pictures of tomentose myc I have seen show relatively even, dense and smooth fluffy mycelium.
If any of these thoughts and assumptions are wrong, please correct me
I was about to throw the dish out today, when I got second thoughts. I will keep it around for a couple more days and if it continues to not sporulate and nobody here can ID this, I might take an agar wedge to grain, just to see what will happen. Now, would you say this is contam or myc, and why? If it is contam, what could it be, since it doesn't appear to be one of the common ones?
I tried to get some high quality macro shots of the growth from some different angles.

Kind Regards, everybody

Not all mold is fast, or green or obviously sporulating.
Got you, but which species of mold could could this be?
Kind Regards!

Definitely mold. Does it matter what kind it is though? 🤔

I grew some mold like that from an attempt at cloning a wild turkey tail a while back... turned gray on me 12 days after the initial transfer

hello i too have this same white anomaly in which i second thoughts and actually fished it out of the trash upon seeing mycelium on Petri dishes with the same growth and appearances. Debating myself on throwing it to grain. The only thing I’ve found resembling it is rhizopus but I did experiment with h202 on a separate petri with the same growth pattern each were taken from tissue of a Lucy phenotype. The H202 did not eat away at it and a small speck of penacilin was obliterated on contact. I am still wondering what it is and still have it growing on petri.curiously did you ever throw it to grain? What ever happened as I see your post is a year before mine. Any conclusions or inspire would greatly be appreciated from anyone with expertise in this field of study I’m an open book please and thank you
