All in one bag progress?
    #28179810 - 02/09/23 04:53 PM (1 year, 11 months ago)

I mixed completely together the colonized grain into the poo substrate this past Sunday and here is the progress so far. A bit hard to tell with the condensation forming inside the bag, but how will I know when to initiate fruiting conditions? Am I looking for complete white like a marshmallow, or mostly white colonization etc...?

I plan on doing an unmodified water tub or perlite fruiting chamber so want to have an idea of when to cut her open and throw in a tub.

It'll go completely white if it's clean.  I wait for that.

You'll want to wait till the entire thing is colonized (covered in white) before you cut it open. I recommend the water tub over the SGFC.

got it thanks. I don't think I'd do a full sgfc, but rather an unmodified tub with a loose fitting lid. First grow so not sure I want to do a water tub or not yet since I don't know too much about it if I'm being honest aside from seeing pictures of them here.

The water tub is an unmodified plastic tote filled with an inch of water. Place your fully colonized cake on a platform above the water so it doesn't touch the water. Leave it alone till it produces fruits.

well shit that's simple enough.

Should I put a touch of bleach or anything in the water so it doesn't grow anything it shouldn't and contaminate the cake?

Just water is fine. I've used the method I'm recommending based off my use with a grow bag; I ended up with about 2oz dried from that grow. Moving forward I wouldnt recommended grow kits though.

yeah this was my first attempt as I get other things lined up. Now I have about 16 agar dishes going with various species and varieties, 3 grain jars inoculated, and 9 liquid cultures doing their thing. Next is getting some substrate blocks made up for my wood lovers and they might be my first complete diy grow, then by then should be ready to try some brf cakes and tub grows from scratch. Kind of went off the deep end on day 2

Good job learning agar. That’s how I really started getting into bulk
