I'm new into Mycology and studied a lot of proven Teks that I am currently running. However I would love to hear about the most uncommon / weirdest Tek you guys learned or even developed yourself.

I know I must not have been the first to figure out and share this tek, but I hope to help popularize it.
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub!
The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it.

Reusable substrates are a pretty weird topic: Pastywhytes's trials with synthetic towels, Violets sponge things... Disclaimer: you asked for weird not good.
Here's one that's a bit unusual but seems to work quite well: Mycolorado's sand casing thread for stone producing species.

spawing cakes is an old as tek as possible. Re usabale substrates is a Paul stamets thing that you can read about in his book growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms
No disrespect to Eatyualive or Pasty they have both a life time of achievements under their belt. just sayin.

Oh I see, I haven't really read any of Stamets' work. Didn't mean to attribute the idea to those members specifically, that's just where I learned of it.

I remember when it was weird to use coir.alone it was weird if you didn't pasteurize your Coir/verm it was weird to not fan and mist it was weird to use anything other than petri dishes for agar it was weird to not shove pillow stuffing into your tubs it was weird to add a light Probably so many more.. whats weird today...
I encourage doing real experiments and just having fun.

Yup I can agree 100%. It actually was the way I started growing Mushrooms, only to quickly realize that its super inefficient... I bought a PC a week later lol

Experimenting is all I'm doing right now, literally got into mycology about 3 weeks ago and went all in... Ordered a PC, shit ton of rye, tubs in all sizes and so on.
Really appreciate this forum because it drastically changed how I think about growing mushrooms in general.

It's like with cooking, recepies are only guidelines. Your own recepie which rocks everything else is found outside of the recepie.
If you learned how it works, like the basics, the rest is just personal preferences and what works the best for one self. What works for you might not work for someone else and more often you notice that the good tweaks you have to find out for yourself ;-)

You just gotta be careful where you find the initial recipe or otherwise your cooking will suck until you figure it out yourself lmao
Just like I did with all the youtube and reddit topics that were mostly bullshit
