To see if you actually get fruits from that sus looking spawn (I assume most or all of them looked like that) I would have told you to shake it and see how it recovered but you sent it before anyone got here it seems. You can test that way and if it recovers swiftly (24-48hrs, sometimes even less) you know it's prob good to send. I wish you luck on your hopefully successful grow and will be following this thread.
Sure, I will post frequently Actually the spawn was fully covered the next day and i felt confident to move forward.
Fingers crossed!
I have 2 new batches of jars coming, one batch was shaken yesterday at around 40% colonization. I will try your way if i have uncovered grains in a few days.

So from what i understood if my spawn was infected with bacteria there are a few possible outcomes:
- The tub will stall - The mycelium will not be strong enough and will not be able to compete with mould
Correct?

Hello!
Day 6 of tub #1
Today i replaced the plastic tape from the holes with micropore and put it close to windows where it can get good light, but no direct sunlight. It's about 25-27ΒΊ C here.
I opened it very quickly tonight (about one second) for the picture.

You're looking good. 10-15 days, generally, for pins to show.

Day 8 of tub #1
In parallel i started 2 more tubs with some spawn that was good to go using ShaperDreaming SFF Tek:
For the substrate i used coir only: 100g coir for 500g of water. I used my PC as container for pasteurising: the pc was heated up with sone water then i dropped the broken coir and the water on top and covered for 1 hour. After that i mixed well and closed again until it cooled down completely.
I needed to squeeze my substrate to obtain the same result as ShaperDreaming as my coir is not absorbing the same amount of water.
Day 1 of shoebox #1
5L box, used 1 pint jar of spawn, 1 pint of substrate to mix and 1/2 pint of substrate as casing layer which was sprayed generously before closing the lid.
Day 1 of minitub #1 1/2 pint of spawn.

ww972 said: Hi everyone! First time grower here I have been reading for a long time before starting and decided to go for agar.
I have used PGT recipe (potato flakes, corn sirup and agar agar) and inoculated a few plates with A+ and B+ spores from syringes using a SAB.
I have had quick growth on the B+ but it seems like all my plates, 11 from 2 pours and inoculation, from this syringe have a bacterial? contam like that :
I also started to have some growth on my A+ plates but i have a little doubt on the following one:
I may have squirted drops a bit randomly, do you guys think the little growth on the side is mycelium or something else?
Sorry about the condensation, it was my first pour, the new plates are much better.
Looking forward to reading you guys!
Thank you
PS: I know there is too much agar, i put only about 0,5cm (1/4 inch) in the new ones the
It's bacteria and this is common putting a spore syringe to agar, eater helps bacteria grow and spread. Try starting spore syringes with brf pucks, similar to pftek, and then transfer healthy mycelium to fresh agar plates. Works like a dream.

Just a quick post to show you and maybe identify some contamination i got in one of my transfers. I took 5 transfers from this plate in the 7 to 9 area and discarded it after.
From my research it could be cobweb mold?
Have a good evening
100% contam.

This looks pretty decent to me, wouldn't be too concerned if this was my tub. Loving how well you document your grow. It helps us help you, and helps other newbies learn as they go. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing you have mush soon.

Thank you Those were my first plates, there were so many transfers since then tht went well with my A+ syringe. But I started 2 BRF pucks, following your advice, yesterday as my other B+ syringe is so bacterial i can't get anything out of it with agar.
I started a thread about it there

Just a bit worried about the bottom right that is much slower. I noticed in the 2 new tubs that not using a liner helps to spread the grain better, which is probably the issue on tub #1.

Day 10 of tub #1
Day 3 of SB #1
Day 3 of Mini #1
2 new tubs today, yes I had lots of jars spawning and still have a few more coming
This time I managed to get the perfect result with my coir using 1:3.5 (120g coir for 420g of water) and that was good to have about 4 pints of substrate so 30g per pint.
Day 1 of SB #2 5L box, 2 pints of spawn, mixed with 2 pints of substrate and 1 pint of top layer
Day 1 of Mini #2 I had some extra coir so i sent one half pint jar, mixed with half pint of substrate and 1/4 pint top layer
So much going on right now!

Not sure if tub #1 has enough humidity... the coir was well hydrated but still not sure, do you guys have any tips on how to be sure it's all good?
Thank you

If there are spots that look the same shade of brown as dry loose coir, give them a mist.
You said you had problems hydrating your coir, did it come bricked or bagged?

it was a big 2kg block, pretty easy to break down though. My main issue was that it was not absorbing the same amount of water than what i was reading on different posts so i had to try a few times to get the good ratio. In my first 2 batches it was too hydrated so i squeezed.
