Which one except cubensis??
    #2813641 - 06/21/04 10:41 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

After I'm done trying pan cyans, which is happening at the moment, I want to try another species. The question is which species is the easier to grow than them and still is no cubensis. I like the looks of thin stemmed mushrooms
Are psilocybe mexicana / psilocybe tampanensis / Panaeolus subbalteatus easier to grow than pan cyans? And are they less or more potent than cubes?

Try panaeolus tropicalis. grow them just like the cyans and from what I have read what is written on them, they say it is a very visual strain. Spore in the U.S. are kind of hard to come by, I have not seen any of the sponsored vendors carry them. Most likely have to find a European vendor.

Mexicana A is easy, and worth a try. They are tough, like pans to fruit... but sclerotia production is simple. Worst case scenario, if you do not get fruits (which are comprable to pan cyans in potency) you will get a shitload of sclerotia (which is less potent... but potent enough). Tampanensis sounds cool too... but it is a bit slower than Mexicana.

Jalisco strain, one of the mexicana strains, is supposed to be easy to fruit (like cubes)... and you should get quite a few stones as well (although not as many as Mexicana A).

Good luck.

are they supposed to be as hard as pan cyans or a bit easier? does anyone know? btw I am starting to think pan cyans are not that hard
after all but if it is lots of shrooms you want and you are not sure if you can succeed with them, I'd go with cubes. cyans are worth the whole growing experiment/experience after all.. I just hope to get at least one print for next time and some to test potency

i will try psilocybe cyanescens one day but outdoors I guess. The climate is ideal for them here anyway, they grow naturally in the forest. But indoors?? I dont know how and I dont know why..

they grow on woodchips (alder) here in the PNW.

best pickings are usually in the city at parks.

wood does come from where there are lots of trees you know like such a place as a forest :crazy2:

Psilygirl, what made you think it is not their natural habitat after I'd said "they grow in the forest here"?? I mean the forest is a natural environment and lots of mushrooms grow there. The climate here is suitable too, so why should they not naturally grow here?

if theres woodchips there then thats possible, its just you said forest so its easy to imply you meant growing in a more natural environment (like rotting wood for example) than woodchips
