If you have such a small amount of money to invest why not be riskier ?

What type of time frame are you looking at ?

Having smaller money would likely make me far riskier (I'm pretty risky)

If I had lots of money I'd likely be a bit more conservative

Like I said it's my only savings really other than cash I stash so I'd really rather not lose it and have it grow slowly over the long run, hence BTC.  That seems to make more logical sense to me.

I decided to stake all my eth.
I never use it so I might as well get those staking payouts. And if I lose it, it was a good run

I read that and thought about it and maybe I should do that too, but can you stake and hold your own keys on a ledger or do you have to trust an exchange?  I don't know how it works at all.

Wealth simple sux because you can't use your stocks dividends to buy crypto

I got like $4 not enough to buy a stock but I could have put it on crypto if they didnt keep sticks and crypto accounts seperate

I read that and thought about it and maybe I should do that too, but can you stake and hold your own keys on a ledger or do you have to trust an exchange?  I don't know how it works at all.

You can only stake your own ETH directly if you hold a minimum of 32 ETH and are comfortable running the appropriate software to do so (if your software does not operate reliably, your stake will be "slashed" which effectively means you will be penalized by losing money until you fix the problem with your validator software).

Exchanges such as Kraken will stake any amount on your behalf and pass the bulk of the rewards on to you (I've had a significant amount of staked "ETH 2.0" with Kraken since they started offering it, even though I could technically run my own validator -- I just don't want to have to manage it myself).

Another option, if you want to custody your own assets and enjoy ETH staking rewards without a minimum commitment, is to swap into a derivative such as Lido's stETH.  It is important to note that even though this derivative contract is operated by a legitimate institution, price does dislocate during times of market duress.  Overall, Lido has a good track record, so if you're just sitting on it and don't plan to withdraw when the market is volatile, you'll probably be fine... but their history (as all of crypto history) is still short, and there is always the potential that their contract suffers from some sort of unknown exploit down the line.  Nevertheless, Lido's stETH has attracted nearly $8 billion of capital to date, so clearly, a lot of people are putting their faith in it.  One of my "crypto friends" works at Lido, so I am confident that they are for real and doing their best to create a safe and functional product, but that doesn't, of course, equate to any guarantee of safety long term.

Them's your options.

I went the easy way and staked with coinbase.  Like o said at this point im just gambling with the eth.

Ive had good luck with coinbase but of course i am skeptical of all exchanges.

Thanks for the info Geo!  Yeah considering the amount I have I'm probably not gonna make enough for it to even be worth staking, I have like .5 ETH

Yeah Coinbase makes it easy but after what they did to me I'll never trust them with anything.  I sent funds once to an address that they had, unbeknownst to me, "blacklisted", and they blocked my ability to send crypto to ANY address for 3 months, removed my linking to my bank account, and now won't even let me re-link my bank account with routing/account numbers only (you have to enter your bank account login credentials/password with Plaid which I just don't think is a great idea and will never, ever do).  So now even though I've gotten my funds to a ledger after waiting 3 months, I'm still stuck with no way to ever turn that back into fiat in my bank account, without going through some other service that will probably take a huge portion of it.

Fuck Coinbase.  Seriously... Their customer service will very politely help you and tell you repeatedly that "this is our policy" and do whatever the hell they want with your account and money, freeze it, block it, de-link your bank.  Good luck with them.

Did a little buying today.  Very small size all things considered, but as I had some USDC sitting idle on Solana, I swapped it into SOL because things look to be happening and SOL got a righteous beat down from its association with FTX, but the network is still more or less the only game in town for dev projects that require low latency, and so I don't suspect it will give up the ghost.

Maybe I'll pick up $5 in a few Cryptos this month, I havnt put any money in a while

Does anyone think putting $15 in $5 increments for 3 cryptos is productive in any way?

I have no idea why I'm doing this, I just do it

If you do it more often than once a month maybe

$15 once a month for 10 years is only 1800

Not sure how that would compound over time but yeah

If that's what you can afford, I wouldn't be dissuaded from doing so. You can gradually increase it as you go.

I had reoccurring deposits onto coinbase from January 2018 through January 2022, starting with $50 every two weeks, bumped it up to $100 every two weeks after a couple years and eventually $200 every two weeks, all into just bitcoin. Over the course of 4 years it was around $15000 that I deposited into these reoccurring transactions and it was around $32K when I converted it into dollars in January 2022 (it was more than 32K overall, but a lot went to other alt-coins or onto other exchanges over time).

I used most of the 32K to short stuff from March to December 2022, lost a few hundred dollars on shorting SPX in that time frame, but made about $10K shorting bitcoin last year with various amounts of leverage, and stopped in December with around $39,000 from the initial reoccurring bi-weekly BTC fund.

I actually saved another $15K last year just from work and combined it with those $39,000 and am taking this year off work completely (stopped working back in December) to knock some college classes out full time. Wouldn't have been able to do so without starting off with those small investments every two weeks and just letting them do their thing. This is all completely separate from other investments like my IRA, house or active trading that I do with other crypto (mostly with bots).

4 years is a long time, but those reoccurring deposits were pretty minimal for my budget and I'm basically able to take a whole year off work because of them. If you need to start with $15, start with $15. Just let it do its thing though and don't compulsively withdraw it without a reason.
