First caseing with overlay
    #2815868 - 06/22/04 01:47 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Hi, im embarking on caseing. i setup my caseing with a top and bottom layer. as soon as MYC was poking through the top layer i cold shocked and then introduced to a trarium. its been about 3 days now so im not expecting pins yet (should i?) but the myc keeps poping up all over the top layer, i know from reading this myc is gonna die from lack of nutrition and nothing will fruit through dead myc. just wandering what can and should i do to fix this? thanks allot

Well I'm not real sure what you meant, but if you put your casing into the fruiting chamber at the first sign myc. then you birthed the casing WAY too soon.

really crap, i thought i read that. the cake i used was fully colinised, but i thought i had to cold shock and put in chamber right after myc apeared over the casing to prevent overlay. can i fix this?

No, he did just right.
Mycelium always grows a bit more after you put the casing into the fruiting chamber, thats perfectly normal.
Just give it a good humidity and air exchange and you should have pins within a week.

i do it real simple. i put the casings in chamber right away and it usually takes 9-12 days before pinning but i never had problems by putting it so early in the fruiting chamber

he was not wrong..if you want a decent pinset you should patch at first signs of myc until its even.. it WAS way to early IMO and IME

and your in no position to be calling anyone a newb

I dont patch anymore. I use the same containers that Magash uses. After preparing the casing, I put them back in the incubator for 2 days, and then into the fruiting chamber. When they go in the f chamber, myc is just barely poking through. in a few days, the entire surface is covered nicely, and pics after a few more days. If I put them in the incubator for longer than 2 days, I end up having too much surface colonization, and have problems getting water into the casing. My pinsets are fine now.
