PC Upgrade?

I posed this in tools, but I wanted to have a real discussion about it. I replaced the blow out plug on my Presto 23qt with a 25psi pop off valve. The idea was to not drill the vessel and be able to revert. Here are the parts used

The flat area stamped into the rocker area will make sealing there difficult even if you drilled it out. I decided to removed the rocker petcock and block it with a small bolt inserted from the inside.

I had to trim the neoprene washer as it was touching the gasket, no big deal. I drilled a hole in the plug, off center for obvious reasons.

A clip was used to hold it open to vent initially. My plan is to print a small spacer to keep it open.

I have run it to pressure a few times now, and the performance was great. At the U in "caution" it start to vent. I would love it if I could keep the safety plug also but no drills right now...

I am looking forward to running agar and bags through this thing. It gets to pressure faster and requires less energy to maintain. If my bags have less stretching then it is a huge win! Thoughts, opinions?

A Presto 23qt only has a rocker, over pressure plug, and a lid lock

Where can you buy those genuine replacement rubber gaskets? I've tried 2 different amazon vendors and Presto site itself. These weird rubber band things come instead of the original thick grooved ones like in this picture.

Using a drill to widen and Tap and die to rethread the hole where the rocker is and using the AA stopcock would be alot safer, I’d keep the overpressure plug hole and widen change out for a 1010 plug from AA also.
Tbh prestos are so thin and easy to warp you better be super careful and make sure to use extra water, I’d only feel safe running it on a hotplate or smallish stove.

The directions that came with my 23qt Presto warn not to use it on burners with output greater than 12,000 BTU's.

That is the original, I have not had to replace any of mine. I use petroleum jelly on them each cycle which helps it to seal up. This is my oldest at 20yrs and still soft.
ACE hardware has OEM replacement parts or did.

I am running some things this weekend so it will be getting tested thoroughly. If satisfied, I will likely go ahead and drill a proper port for the pop valve and replace the overpressure plug for good measure. Is the AA plug arguably better?

They make two. One is rated to blow at 35psi and made for a sterilizer, the red one, 1010 i believe is the part#.
the black one is basically the same as the presto i think theyre rated at around 25
The AA stopcock also has a pressure release at 30 that drops it to 20 for another layer of safety.
With your current setup it’d be really easy to go waay above a safe pressure in a dinky little cooker and become the next cautionary tale…

Looks a bit dangerous to tamper with, fingers crossed.
