Almost as fun as eating them when you’re not allowed to.

I fucked myself up with a mason jar of caustic mimosa sludge and needed surgery to reattach the tendons in my hand

I know it’s a low percentage risk but would still recommend not smashing yourself with glass objects.

Edit: The thigh is particularly dangerous if you enjoy keeping your blood inside you

Re: Cultivation confessional [Re: San Pedro Girl]

I started out with pre colonized agar plates I got from a few guys on IG, I’ve yet to work with any spores.  I still use my vertical β€œblow hood” for whenever I need to open a agar plate to make new LC or do tissue samples, but almost all my work otherwise is done in open air through SHIPs, including my no pour agar jars. I’ve even done open air cloning using joesex poke and injected into the No pour agar jars (or directly to LC ). My first LC was a bottle of low sugar apple juice that I added some agar to, just like if I was activating or expanding some yeast for a wine/mead (only I did all the work in a hood instead of open air like I would pitching yeast)
I do always test my LC on agar, but until recently, just about every grow I’ve done has had some signs of bacterial grains. Either in pre made grain bags from vendors, or using broke boi tek with brown rice. I’ve S2B just about all this bacterial looking jars, and still get at least a good flush or two. Not great practice I know, but it’s why all the redit types say their β€œteks” works. No they’re not really learning the science or hobby, but if they just want a handful of fruits that they can say they grew themselves, then all the power to them.

Since I got a PC, my first batch wasn’t cooked long enough or something, and the millet was still contaminated. I think I finally got some clean growth on oats that I PC myself, but of course I inoculated with a APE variety that is taking its time to colonize (all the other grain jars from that run got used for oysters and lions manes).

Oh, breaking up colonized grain jars, I fold up a towel and drape it over the edge of the counter/table (a rounded edge, not a sharp 90Β° corner) so I can bang the jar agains it.

I just kinda use the palm of my hand. I also try not to force it anymore. If it's a colonizing jar with a clean culture and well-prepped grain, then it shouldn't be too hard to break up and shake. If it's a colonized jar, I only ever care about freeing a few grains from the top for a g2g transfer. I can always just dig consolidated spawn out of the jar with my bare hands. My grain masters are small and easy to beat the shit out of, and anyway, if they're too hard to break up then they're just not good masters.

Did a nice spiral-slice job on my thumb last September after banging a jar on a hard object and breaking it in my hand. So no more of that.

I finally managed to get off of the Uline mailing list, so I don't get their monstrous catalogs in the mail anymore. But they'd be a good choice. Find the editorial page where the owner spews her crazy fascist bullshit, and just smash the jar into her picture over and over again.
