Psilocybe cubensis "Creeper" on straw & bagged manure in a 5 gal bucket
#2815070 - 06/21/04 06:52 PM (19 years, 7 months ago) |
|
|
(EDIT) looking back on this grow ten years later.... I should have made low and high polyfill holes for FAE. This would have helped with the super large and fuzzy stems. Regardless this shows you how resilient cubes are to poor fruiting conditions. The lightly composted and hydrated straw seemed to be a perfect substrate for fruiting. My father ended up jacking this entire harvest back in the day and gave it to a friend. He ate some, then ate a shit ton more thinking it wasn't doing much and ended up sitting on a curb for hours or so i was told...
Here's a few pics of my creeper bulk casing. Its in a 5 gal bucket. the strain is creeper. I used a quart jar of nice rizomorphic WBS to spawn onto composted straw/manure.
I had a 2x2x2' pile of straw 25% manure and wet down and turned every few days and covered the pile with plastic out in the sun. In the end it was nice and moist. I loaded that along with a bit extra composted manure into baking trays and covered with foil and into the oven at 170 for 5 hours. After colonization I cased with coir, patched and it started fruiting 4 days.
The pinset is nice and even and there about 1cm tall now. The substrate is about 5" thick so im looking forward to a good 3 solid flushes of about an 1-2 oz each dry, just enough for me and my crew to have a few more good time's .
A few days after spawning

3-5 days later

june 21, pins

june 22

june 23 (camera acting up) note: the coir is a bit on the light side since it needs a misting.

june 24 (1:10 am) the coir isnt that dry the cameras auto balance color shit (now turned to manual) isnt geting the pics the same, notice how the bucket looks blue in the top pics and now its white.

june 24 (3:30 pm)

june 25

june 26 there was 2 aborts, don't know why they were both one of the larger ones. I think its from the fluctuating temps from 74-82. I need an A/C in my room, ive been stealing my bros a/c air from his room a few times but he shut my door. I actually went out to buy one but spent $200 on grow supplies, but that's always an investment

june 28

june 29

Anyone know what caused this? I think it could have been the sharp humidty change when i misted heavily after coming home form being away for a day. Ill see if it keeps going, hasnt aborted yet.
june 30 almost there I'll be growing most of these till they drop spores.

harvest pics 900g wet Like i said bucket-0-shrooms

 taking prints
 inside my flowhood

Damn 3 flushes of an ounce or more dry, nice job man. keep up the good work.
And any hints / tips / links you have will be appreciated.

Na man, im hoping for that. I think its truely possible with this thick of a casing. tips, if you get some rizo growth in fluffy colonized jar shake it and allow the rizos to well colonize the jar before spawning. And only use your best jars of growth for indoor grows.

Ive been fanning more often and growth has picked up over the last day. I think the problem is half the container is the substrate and the air gets used up fast. Ill just fan 4 times a day from now on.

Is the spliting from co2 or is that humidty? I wasn't fanning them as much as i should have, only 2-3 times a day. The last 14 hours there was no fanning at all because i was'nt able to. They did need more air but i still got 902g Wet , and thats counting the 20g of aborts, mine . I could always do what mycofile did and cut the bucket a bit lower and drape the plastic over the shrooms so the sides are open a bit allowing for air exhange. But I like moving around my bucket for pics so i think having the walls would help hold them up. I only had 2 tip over. For the next flush ill drill holes at the bottom and top so the heavy co2 falls out the botom hole and slowly sucks in fresh air. I think 4-8 1" holes (2 high 2 low on oposite sides of the bucket) loosely packed with polyfill will do. I'll have to experiment. Also this isnt a real 5 gal bucket i think its only 4 but its the same diameter as a 5. I have a bud light cooler bucket, the ones with the seat on top and a removable foam cooler insert. It's the same diameter but tall i think its 6-7 gal. I would use that next time if i grow in a bucket again and hook up a small computer fan with a 9v powersupply sucking through this medium sized hepa filter i have, then either have it on a 30/30min on/off timer and or give it a 6v powersupply if it dries out the casing too much. I dont think a humidifyer is needed because I only misted once a day, fanned 2-4, and the seran wrap i covered the bucket with was always fogged up. For the last day all i did was hydrate the casing a bit by unscrewing the tip of the mister a bit and spraing past the shrooms onto the casing where i could. I dont think ill dunk it for the second round because this is too much shrooms for me and my crew, or mabey not I lost my digi camera in all the hustle and bustle of the harvest and print taking. I took 8 prints in my flowhood in a small tuperware container that i steralized with alcohol and coverd the caps with these small glass cups, 8 3/4 oz glass cups. I took pics of the printmaking and the pics of the casing before it was picked, i forgot to take pics of the pile but ill take some on the drying racks once i find the digi.

cool, glad to see someone else using 5g buckets, i use them exclusivly now so i don't have to deal with humidity tents, timers, coll mist ect. just fan as much as possible, there perfect, a self contained fruiting chamber can do everything in the same container (spawn, incubated, case, incubate, fruit) and if you get comtams it's limited to one bucket rather then a whole tent, saves a lot of cleaning. only "problem" is when you get a nice flush sometimes the fuckers start pushing the plexiglass off the top but i'm not complaining did you do it like this-
or build a giant chamber or tent? i like the self-contained method for reasons described above, just curious of diffrent ways people do it, i was thinkin of using a clear trash bag for when they come over top like yours did because they get all goofy shaped when you let them grow into the plexiglass and either crack it open and you lose humidity or fall over because of there weight when the get mature

its easier to dunk in something like that then a cake...all you do is put down a heavy brick then add water till its submerged
the substrate is straw/manure mix which was spawned with wbs...which means...he broke up colonized wild bird seed and mixed it in wit the straw/poo combo and it colonized it...the reason you can do this is straw and poo both have natural defence system against contams...but you have to pasteurize or at least should first.....which is submerging the poo/straw in water at around 170 degrees for at least an hour...it kills off the badies but dosen't hurt the good bacteria...then you have approx 2 weeks for it too fully colonize before contamination can set in
