genuinely the best grain prep write up i've read, i've never felt like it really got wheat "right" until following this. my jars are coming out excellent now, no more weird moisture & burst grains. love that i can dry these anywhere from 2-24hrs too, makes the timing for loading & sterilizing jars way more flexible. i rinse, boil, & dry these in a brewers bag, laying the bag on a wire shelf to dry & i can't overstate how easy the brewers bag has made my grain prep (sorry to have to agree with guerrilla)
the wheat also freezes super well. i made way too much my first run as i wasn't expecting them to swell up as much as they did. froze it for about a week & the grains were still super primo after letting them defrost & dry a bit. could be useful for people who maybe don't have the time to do the whole ritual weekly but still need a lot of prepped grain.
thanks for writing this up beefy

hey thanks for the endorsemenr hazy. i take my grain serious. yeah i know the bags probably work pretty good i was thinking you could rinse the grain post-cook real well with them with a hose or even in the sink.

oh yeah, the bag makes rinsing at any stage so simple, fits around the rim of the pot super well. & for drying, it's a built in screen, it's a win all around
i guess we can give the kid one point

What's a good price for wheat berries and does it matter which kind? I'm seeing soft white, hard white, and hard red spring. Best available looks like $55/25lbs

BE ADVISED: I have updated my this tek to include a little info about different kinds of wheat. I do apologize for not doing this sooner, I didnt realize there would be such a difference until I got a bag of hard red winter wheat.
I pay 12$ for 50lbs. 55 for 25lbs is expensive as hell but if the shoe fits...

Thanks for the tek! I'm curious, is rye significantly slower to colonize than white wheat too, or did I misunderstand?
I followed the tek last month to prepare rye spawn for the first time and it seemed very slow to colonize from day 1, it spread at around 5mm/day if I had to guess.
