Nice one beef.

The most cost effective grain in my area is WBS with a shitload of wheat, and I find normal preps for millet heavy mixes don’t mesh well with the varied grain sizes. Bet your low and slow approach might just be the ticket.

Sweet GIFs too, love the visual reference on texture and stickiness in the hand/jar.

Recent (failed) attempts at no prepping has left me with a bucket of filthy wheat and milo and I’m gonna Beef-Tek ™ that shit and see what’s up

I will

Next time you prep I’d be interested to know what the water temp is on your preferred setting.

Rinsed, soaked ~20 hrs, and into the pot on low. Having never measured water temp for grain I heated slowly to establish a visual for simmer temps.

With the lid on I was seeing fine consistent bubbling starting at 180-185, briefly hitting a hard simmer at 190+

80 min cook all told - my longest to date, and hotter than suggested. I think 175f will be my target next time for low/slow, and establish cook time based off that.

Grain looks good

Pictured: Dry, 20hr soak, 30 mins, 80 mins

What the hell man, my wheat isn’t sticking to the jar properly? No shitty starch paste?

Jokes aside this was filthy and full of broken grains out of the bag, I overcooked it, and it still rolls around the perfectly. Learned today that I have probably never dried a batch of grain properly.

Fuck yeah beef

Great writeup! Been using wheat for a while very cheap around here. But always did the 16-20 hour soak. Will be trying this tomorrow
Thanks!

I believe it was only air fried for drying purposes
