I birthed yesterday into a plastic tub with lid on perlite. This morning I see a few cakes have a new blue/geen color on the tops of the cakes. There was NO CONTAMINATION AT THE BIRTH. Am I screwed? Also I can only get the hydrometer up to 75%, do I need to add more H2O? Should one be able to see water actually sitting in the bottom of the tub or should all the water be soaked up? Please advise!!!!

Obviously a noob here, first time grower, lots of waiting and work for a bad batch luckily, I kept 2 in jars to further grow. So at least I have a back-up. I handled them on the sides, low near the vermiculite layer when moving from jars to the tub. I wonder if the tamping to remove cakes caused the bruises?

Looks like bruising to me. If your humidity is only 75%, this is almost certainly what it is -- cakes bruise as they dry out.
Set up some kind of humidification system -- at least an air pump and some airstones in peroxidated water -- and also, dunk those bitches if they're not pinning.

My friend has got a bad case of that yellow stuff all over his jars, though it did take a very very long time for it to spread. Might be something else too, i can't tell by the pic. The blue looks fine though, just some strong myc that got bruised it looks like ...hope that helped?

If you are willing, you can often get a better idea by cutting the cake open. I've found that contamination can grow inside the cake (particularly if you are not using a pressure cooker, or did not cook long enough) and be enclosed by the healthy growth. Sometimes the contamination can show up near the sides like that, particularly in the areas that were late to colonize.
If you slice the cake in that area you can see if its just a surface effect, or if it extends into the cake. If its just on the surface, discard it and try to grow the cake out (I usually keep cakes like this in their own chamber, just in case). If it extends into the cake, toss the whole thing.

How far into the cake would you make allowances for?

well if its on the outside grown from in... slice not deeply at all and see if its there... if it is, go a lil deeper.... but if you find it anywhere past 1/4 inch its not safe to chop that part off and grow the cake out i say

I have only grown once, but when i first took my cakes out of the jars they got really blue, a lot more blue than yours, and they grew fine. After the first flush i dunked them and they returned to totaly white in a day, then started to blue again after flushing again, in my oppinion you are fine, but like i said i am fairly inexperienced
