just some trivial bits of input/requests

The link for Pics in the ...navigation pane?... (not sure the proper terminology there) will open in a new tab. Is there any way to change that behavior, even if on a per-user basis? I know that I personally prefer two tabs open, one for easy access to pictures--but I tend to open a lot more tabs than intended. One example would be on the post-upload screen, I'll often click that top link instead of the "View pictures" link below the upload. It'd be pretty rad to disable that behavior in the Display Preferences.

As for browsing pictures, I noticed the Upload date doesn't conform to the format chosen in Display Preferences. Mine is set to YY/MM/DD, for example, and I'm seeing images uploaded as DD/MM/YY. Kinda throws me off a little bit.

I saw a request not too far down for changing the picture's name. When pictures are uploaded, don't they all get a numerical prefix and essentially a new name for the server? In the example above, I see my local file is named navigationpane.png, yet the Shroomery copy renamed 407489986-navigationpane.png. Rather than using the Comment feature, it wouldn't be possible for the user to edit that--what seems to be a description autofilled with the original file name?

Another somewhat minor feature I could see being useful would be some way of denoting each picture as actively linked to a post. I love stumbling on old posts and the user's embedded pics are still there, but I'll find myself looking at my picture uploads and wondering, can I delete this? The thought of someone reading a thread I had replied to, only to see

keeps me up at night. A little icon showing it's linked to a post, or better yet, a way to see what posts are associated with each image would be awesome.

And finally, the Smiley Panel is a bit hectic. Maybe a Smiley Panel Navigation Pane using tabs where only a single category's images are shown at a time?

Oh and thank you whether you act on any of this or not. Just some things I was thinking about. I don't want to be a bother.

I just have way too much time on my hands atm

Those are all good suggestions! The Pics link was easy to fix, I added an option under Display Preferences to "Open 'Pics' link in new window?". Likewise, it was easy to update the date format in your pic uploads to match your preference.

Tracking which images are used in which posts is definitely a desirable feature. Besides the ability to see if it was used in a post like you described, it would also come in handy for things like enabling the ability to rename images, and filtering out deleted images in search results. Unfortunately, this isn't possible without a pretty big code update to change the way that images are handled in posts. It's something I'd like to work on someday, but it's not an easy fix like the other ones.

I'm not quite sure what you're requesting here? The reason we add a prefix is to ensure the filename is unique on the server. It's simple to do this rename at the time of the upload, because we know the image hasn't been used in any posts yet. After it's been uploaded, we don't know whether it's been included in any posts, so if the image is renamed we're unable to easily update any references to it.

Technically it would be possible to let you choose a new filename at the time you're uploading the image, but is that what you're asking for? You can always just rename the file itself, and there would still be a numeric prefix added after upload.

Hopefully I can explain myself a bit better--when it comes to server-side file names, there's ultimately no value to the user in the naming convention. Hell, strip the orginal filename completely during the upload and I doubt it would inconvenience anyone.

Currently, users still see the name of the file they've uploaded, whether under the thumbnail or in a column of the Text Link view. That particular attribute is what I was referring to for a user to change. So for the example in the initial post, the request is an option to edit where I see "navigationpane.png" but the server location and actual file aren't touched. That's assuming there's not a kind of intrinsic link between the text the user sees and the file itself.

I think that's what Rotnpins was suggesting here:

I'm not sure if this is already a feature (if it is, I'm too dumb to figure it out), but it would be really cool if we could edit our photo names in the "pics" section...

I think this could be a really useful feature.. I've got a ton of photos that have the default file names, and I would like to get them better labeled/organized without needing to delete and re-upload them. That way it doesn't mess up the pictures that I've already posted in threads.

Hypothetically if someone uploads an agar plate pic, which their device has a naming convention of YYYYDDMM-imageXXX.jpeg, it can be difficult to easily locate that picture amongst the rest of their plate pictures down the road if they don't recall the date of the photo

Edit: I forgot to add-- cell phones

I know my phone's default apps don't allow me to change the filename. To do that I know I can use a file manager downloaded from the Play Store to locate and change the file prior to uploading, but there are those that just know the basics and upload through the Shroomery website straight from their phone
