FUNGUZ EZ FELT LID TEK
These are the lids that I've used for years with amazing results. Simple, cheap, and easy to make. These lids work great for LC, grain, etc. The EZ Felt holds up to many runs through the pressure cooker and is dirt cheap. You can use any kind of RTV silicone. It does NOT require the red "high heat" RTV silicone. I have used the clear kind for years. The lids will rust out before the clear silicone fails.
SUPPLIES NEEDED: *Jar lids *1/4" and 1/2" Forstner Drill Bits *1/2" rubber injection ports *At least one sheet of EZ Felt *RTV Silicone *Drill *Scissors *Toothpicks (to help apply the silicone) *Block of wood to drill lids on
Firstly, gather your supplies together. Cut the sheet of EZ Felt into circles the size of a quarter using scissors.
 (Automotive section at Walmart. ~$5)

($19 for entire set at Harbor Freight)
(canning supply section ~$3)
(EZ Felt - Hobby Lobby or ordered online ~$2/per sheet)
(Rubber Injection Ports - EBay/look for 1/2" ports)
Once you have your materials, gather them together and let's start:

Chuck the 1/2" Forstner bit into the drill and make the holes for the injection ports.

The Forstner bit should leave a perfectly round 1/2" hole:

Now, using the 1/4" Forstner bit, drill a hole on the opposite side of the lid. Be sure to leave enough room to seal the edge of the EZ Felt on the flat portion of the lid:

This should leave you with two perfectly round holes in each lid: One 1/2" hole for the injection port, and one 1/4" hole for the gas exchange port that will be covered by the circles of EZ Felt. Your lids should look like this:

Apply the RTV silicone around the 1/2" injection port holes first. *Use a toothpick to apply a small amount around the underside of the lip on the injection port too* After installing the injection port, apply the silicone around the gas exchange hole:

Push the EZ Felt circle directly over the gas exchange port, being careful not to get any silicone on the center of the EZ Felt.
***Getting silicone on the felt will prevent proper gas exchange, resulting in slower growth***
Place in a warm area on a plate, cover the lids with a paper towel and allow the silicone to fully cure for 24 hours. Your lids should look like this when done:

The lids are now ready for pressure cooking. Make sure to make several extra lids since you already have the supplies out. You can sanitize them and store them in a freezer bag until they're ready to be used.

Be sure to leave a 5 Shroom rating if you found the above information useful.
