Possible root rot on a 50 year old San Pedro? Need Help

Thanks for clicking I have an old San Pedro that's getting worse by the day, most of one side has turned yellow and is thinning out. After research it could be, too much water or too little, or root rot. I doubt it's had too much water even though it's been raining recently in NZ, as it's handled much worse in the winter. I see a clear contrast at the bottom, unsure what's going on there but that's been visible for almost a year (the brown on the bottom 6 inches was where it was planted in soil at an attempt to root it) It was also cut from the original base before we moved house 6 weeks ago. Any help on how to remedy this beautiful cactus would be appreciated, especially since it's my girlfriends and it's my job to take care of it hahah... edditing some more so the algorithim is happy

Doesn’t look like there is anything wrong with it to me. Definitely not too much water because the ribs are skinny, it could do with more water and being put in a bigger pot

Thanks for the reply Bardy, I agree it just looks like it needs more water. Definitely worth noting it's been the wetest summer here in NZ and at one point moved it to where you see it potted due to being under shelter but still gets sunlight there. Do you suggest putting it in a bigger pot with cactus soil for now and water it anyway?

For now I have it laying sideways on that bench, and just put water on the dwindling side.

They absorb water through the roots.. water the soil man, and keep it up straight.
Yeah, put it in a bigger pot with fresh soil, it’ll love it.
