Pics from today. Got a semi and heart flutters when I found the patch. Pics don’t do it justice. There were many more and the scent was strong. First time finding these was on Tuesday. I’m new here is that good? ; )
Also included a little bit of habitat on those last few posts. I remember seeing a post last fall about an easy way to spot Box Elders by looking for their seed pods called samaras I think . Went out and scouted some spots then using that info. Great tip, I don’t recall who posted that but probably saved many hours searching wrong spots. Cheers to you! Been an exciting week. Will probably head back OutThere tomorrow to search for Morels.
Have a great weekend and get OutThere!

nice OutThere! mind if i ask around about what county you found those in? no exact locations of course, just a general city/county would be awesome!
i found about 3-4 pounds wet of panaeolous today but im waiting to see the spore print before i post pics. god i hope theyre active. though i have a feeling the prints gonna be brown : ( . but if in-active pans are popping, u can bet active ones are popping too.

oh and yeah the samaras on the box elder are shaped like a V (when 2 are attached together). a few trees have identical seed pods but theyre not as V shaped and the tails are spread farther apart.
heres a shot of the haul. was starting to rain so i had left my camera in the car. if theyre active though there were tons left and when i go back tomorrow after work ill get better shots

edit: actually im pretty sure those are foes my bad

The Ovids are doing a poor job of finding me. The pics below look to me to be prime habitats, floods readily, and box elders are around. Lots of fallen debris. I wonder if maybe this spot gets too wet. What do you think?

I don't think that it can ever be too wet, as the spot that I go to gets totally flooded all the time. I also have to travel 30 miles to the north, to the river, to find them. They do not grow in my town anywhere. Sometimes they just wont grow in your area, even though they are found in your state. Don't give up though, they will find you one day

Hey y’all, here are some shots since my last post. Notice the pic with the blue circle around our target species. Good representation of what to pick vs what not to pick. Also a good example of the close proximity in which specimens can occur. 6’s, sorry about the foes. Been finding lots of them in same habitat as well. The hygrophonous cap looks similar to ovoids so good eye to spot them. ITP N of I20 E of you. Tingalls, thanks dude. I’ve got one or two lil crispies shots for you here and on my next post. Love the turtle. Boomer, don’t give up on that area. Pretty sure it is under foraged. Lots of box elders along the roadside creek across from where you described. If you throw on a pack and your boots, grab a walking stick to mind the snakes and follow the creek, perhaps you can pioneer that location? Maybe head out after it warms up a bit and the next round of rain. Good luck to you. Bh453, spot may be a little wet. I’ve been looking in areas like that with some success directly on fallen trees a good ways off trail. Hit or miss. Maybe look for Morels in thicker privet at that spot? https://

A few stragglers found yesterday. Glad to learn that a freeze doesn't eliminate the chance of finding these. Hoping this rain brings more!

Quality habitat photos. The 2 of the collected wood debris along the bank are especially helpful in illustrating how others describe finding them. Can confirm locating them in similar looking setups. Box elders nearby are good indicator of where to look.

Found a new patch today in Douglas county! I was actually looking more for morels but I knew I was in the correct habitat for ovoid as well. Box elder were all over. So many downed trees it was impossible to look at all of them. I just happened upon this patch. Passed prime, sure, but still cool!
