Bad ass man! after I got bit, I don't handle and venomous snakes any longer. Once you get bit by a copperhead that,  excruciating pain,  and and the hospital stay,  will discourage you from ever making that mistake again.

the dumbest thing that I did was handle a five foot Diamondback when I lived in Arizona, not to mention the huge Cottonmouth hat I caught in Florida that nearly bit me as well

However,  the copperhead bite was from me grabbing into some brush,  and he just happened to be there.

Jut be very careful when grabbing for mushrooms in tall weeds, or rolling over logs, etc,  with your hands until you make sure that their are no snakes lying about

Dear Lord, I work in East Point.  I have seen the Mushroom Observer posts, and I have read about “metro ATL” references around the “beltline”.  Am I far off?  Like how far of a drive from the plaza that day target is in at Camp Creek?

I read this line a prayer you would say on your knees next to the bed hahaha.

People are posting Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata right now and their habitat is different than weilii/caerulescens. You can find ovoids in many places ITP but don't expect anyone to give you coordinates. Look through recent older Official Georgia Actives posts for more habitat info. There's one for every year.

Kind of a prayer.  I would never expect exact locations, or even relatively close.  There are probably hundreds of pounds out there along the rivers for as many people who are actually looking for them.

I’m wondering more so is the Chatahoochee a good place to start, East if ATL?  Any tributaries?  Pretty large territory.

That is a hell of a shout-out from AR himself. Been lurking here for a decade under a couple a different names over the years.  Forget screen names and change of emails.  In n’ out of the hobby after moving from Athens, OH(OG Ovoid territory, was in contact with “ShroomyDan”)to California and now Georgia. Happy to be in Georgia with success on gourmet’s, but no success on actives. Don’t mean to flood the thread with crap post and will remain quiet until I can contribute to the goal of the thread.

I will need that unlimited photo grant in a few years from now after getting to know the land.

-  Good day.

i would start on the east side of the river as im not having too much luck on the west of it in the narrow latitude ive searched. but man would i be happy to find out that i just wasnt looking in the right areas. they have definitely been found on the east side.

HOLY MOLY EVLY! Thats a nice haul! I've noticed from your pics that they dont need to be growing directly on wood, is that right? In my few failed hunts I've focused mostly on big rotting logs and branches, but these guys seem to be just in the general area of woodchips and such. Im also curious how far from water you are, if ya dont mind. I've mostly focused in areas within throwing distance of ponds and creeks. Just trying to narrow down my search since there so much area to cover lmao

Always find them pretty close to river but not necessarily right on side of it. Maybe within roughly 20-30m max. Pretty much always from wood but not always above surface, usually chips or small chunks get covered over time from flooding. Won’t notice unless you pluck one and see piece of wood it’s attached to. With that being said they can grow from those piles but it def hit or miss.

Hey Y’all,
First time poster here so wanted to introduce myself. I spend a lot of time outside exploring areas around the state.  Got into mycology through chanterelle foraging  and caught the bug. Used to pic cubes and never thought much about actives in the Piedmont until last year.
I’d like to thank everyone here who posts their finds. Studying the pictures and previous years threads has been really useful in locating various species. Last year, I was able to locate a prolific Gym spot, found some woodland Weilii, many A. Perscina, and a lone Caerulescens. To anyone who has yet to find any actives, all the info you need can be found on the site with some digging. So, gentleman, I present to you my first submission. Found these close to home. ITP.

Until my next post, I’ll be OutThere.

- ok I’m a little slow. Having trouble uploading pics from my phone. Need to find the directions again and upload from my desktop I guess. Will add them later.

Same process for phone/computer.
Nice to have you here! Btw caerulescens and weilii are synonymous. Weilii is a now defunct name but we Georgians still use it from time to time
