    #2813789 - 06/21/04 11:20 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I came apon a bunch of these guys today and im pretty sure its an amanita. Heres the description:

Cap color:white to tan-white
Warts: yes
Color: white to brown (similar to the color of a roasted marshmellow)
Vail: yes
Stem color: white to tan-white
Gill color: white
Stem length: seen from 3 to 7 inches
Stem shape: braudens at base
stem width: 1 to 5 cm
Cap width: seen from 2 to 6 inches
Habitat: forest floor
Location: US, North Carolina

2 days from last rain
Previous day temperatures dropped to about 75-80, now back to 80-85

Hope someone can help.

Also I'm IDing another mushroom
Cap color: peach (varrying from yellow green to red purple)
Stem color: yellow
Has tubes not gills (colored yellow)
Habitat: grass
bruses blue however not psy. (theres a list on this site that has mushrooms that stain blue but are not psy.)
stem length:3 inches
stem width: 1 cm-2cm
cap width:1-2 inches
Same location as above mushroom

Once again i hope someone can help

Your first one sounds like an Amanita. Did the mushroom have a cup at the base? Amanitas are a dangerous genus because it has several species of mushrooms that are deadly. It's hard to say if yours are deadly without a picture.

Second one is some type of bolete, not active as you said. It could be poisonous. These mushrooms tend to be very common around this time of year.

Thanks Gumby

Cup at the base??? well im not positive on that the was alot of leaf cover in the area and i didn't want to be seen picking these suckers so i had to move quick. I know what ya meen though. Amanitas start in an egg type "deal" and break throught leaving a cup at the base.

I do remember though it was very bulbas (?) at the base and there were warts on the base aswell but none on the stem.

Speaking of the warts there more like spikes.

Im most likly going to honey tek one of them then transfer it to a cake, even though its most likly poisonous. I need to brush up my skills before my blue meanie spores arrive.

Growing either one of them on a cake will prove to be unsuccessful. Both types of mushrooms you found are mycohorrizal, which means they grow in assoication with tree roots. Growing mycohorrizal indoors is ungodly difficult if not impossible for most people.

Here?s an example of the cup at the base which I speak of:

oh well, i'll just wait for my spores. And i don't believe that this mushroom had a cup or it was attached very snuggly to the stem, can't tell you now I just threw them away after reading your post

Better luck next time I supose, and thanks again.

if the cap was extremely spongy, I would say Lepiota/Macrolepiota
